Greetings!

Last weekend marked the first day of spring - thankfully after the snowy winter we endured.  We have been receiving calls from people discovering damage from the winter weather.  Feel free to call us if you have some items that need attention - we would be happy to help you.

I created a Facebook page for Historic Restorations last week - this will allow more frequent communication with project updates, event reminders, the ability to create discussion boards (we will be happy to answer/give opinions to any questions posted), and preservation news.  It is easy to become a fan and the information will post to your Facebook page.

All always let me know if you need any other information or have comments regarding the newsletter.

All the best,
Danielle

Historic Restorations recently completed the restoration of the 14 original windows on the Columbia Market House built in 1869.  We removed, repaired the large (almost eight feet tall) double-hung windows, and reinstalled using the traditional Victorian counter-weight system.  In addition we restored the frames and sills using a consolidant and wood-repair epoxy system.  On the exterior we installed "invisible" storm windows.

Repairing existing windows and insuring they have a tight fit with a storm window (either interior or exterior) is as energy efficient as double-insulated glass in new windows - as proven by the University of Vermont report 'Testing the Energy Performance of Wood Windows in Cold Climates'  (link to the entire study is on our website under Services).  Making repairing/retaining original wood windows not just preservation of important architectural details but also a green solution.
Lancaster Historic Home Show - 2010

The Lancaster Historic Home Show premiered the last weekend in February.  It was well received by both exhibitors and attendees.  The demonstrations by Limeworks.us, The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, and Lancaster County Timber Frame added much to the show.  The educational seminars where well attended.

There are pictures from the weekend and comments from exhibitors on the home page of the Lancaster Historic Home Show website at: http://www.lancasterhistorichomeshow.com/

Thanks to all who exhibited and attended for helping make the first year a success!  Look for the 2011 date to be posted soon.
