Greetings!

I hope you had a great holiday weekend with your family and friends.  We went to Gettysburg to see the battle re-enactment.

The topic of green building keeps coming up in terms of preservation.  The relationship between retaining what is existing and "greenwashing" (new or old building products promoted as environmentally friendly during a marketing pitch) needs to be examined - it seems as if more information is being presented about green building.  Every few months or so I will present some of the resources I have discovered.

As always let me know if you have a topic you would like to see covered or have ideas for additional topics.  I do enjoy hearing from you and your feedback.

All the best,
Danielle Keperling

Home Improvement Contractor Registration

July 1, 2009 marked the deadline for all home improvement contractors that sell more than $5,000.00 per year to register with the state.  Our registration number is listed above, below our phone number - you will soon be seeing these numbers all over the place as contractors are required to add them to all marketing material (including vehicles).

More information about the contractor registration can be found at the Pennsylvania Attorney General's website.

The National Trust's Sustainability Initiative

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has launched a website devoted to green building and preservation with tips for home and business owners. With a resource section complying energy saving tips, wood window repair rather than replacement (so that you can be prepared when the vinyl window salesperson comes to your door), and examples of adaptive re-use to inspire you.  You can visit this site at: PreservationNation.org.
