A Brief History Lesson

How we came to honor Memorial Day
Did you know that Memorial Day started out as a remembrance of the Union soldiers of the Civil War? in 1865 freed slaves in Charleston, South Carolina cleaned up and landscaped an area where Union prisoners of war were buried in unmarked graves. That became Decoration Day and Michigan declared it an official state holiday in 1871. Federal law changed the name to Memorial Day in 1967.

Madelinetosh
Wahoo!!!!! Last week we received a shipment of more Madelinetosh yarn.  10 different colors of lace,  22 of sock and  22 of Vintage. If you love this yarn as much as we do, stop by to fondle it. Be aware that it sells quickly and we are already out of some colors. Thistledown Yarn Fiona has been busy dyeing yarn for the shoppe. This coming week we will receive her first batch for this year.

Stitch Sampler Scarf
This is our follow up to the beginner's class. Betsy will teach you 7 new techniques per week, and at the end you will have a lovely scarf. Class dates are Wednesdays: June 13, 20, and 27; July 11, 18, and 25; and August 1 from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm. Total cost is $40. Magic Loop Sock
Learn how to use the Magic Loop technique by knitting a sock. Class dates are Wednesdays: August 15, 22, and 29 from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm. Cost is $40.

Clip on Water Bottle - Using worsted weight cotton yarn, crochet a water bottle holder that incorporates a carabiner. We suggest our 2nd Time Cotton or our Sugar N Cream. This pattern in located on Ravelry. Pulcini - Knit a basic, topdown garter stitch cardigan in sizes preemie to 3 months. It uses fingering weight yarn. We have oodles of fingering weight yarn, from Dale of Norway to Madelinetosh sock. Ravelry pattern. Granny's Cloth Revamped - Do you have a bunch of left over worsted weight cotton in different colors? Knit the basic dishcloth and use up those colors, This Ravelry pattern uses 2 different colors to make a cute, basic dishcloth. Pincushion Cupcake - Knit this fun pincushion cupcake using DK yarn. We suggest Loyal or Tonic. Ravelry pattern. Petal - Need a summer cardigan? Knit this lovely top with DK yarn. We suggest Ultra Pima by Cascade. Close Knit Firefly Bias Scarf - Do you like to wear scarves in the summer? Use our Firefly by Classic Elite for this knitted scarf. Firefly is a rayon and linen blend that is wonderful to knit and wear.
