Events in Leelanau County
|
The Leelanau Enterprise has an online calendar of what is going on in the county. I enjoy watching the parade in Leland on July 4th and this year will be the first time I am able to do so since opening the shoppe. Thanks, Jill, for working for me.
Next Saturday (7-9-11) is the Artist's Market at the Old Art Building in Leland. Many wonderful items and I always start my Christmas shopping with these folks.
Just a reminder to visit the Leelanau Farmer's Markets. Strawberries are out right now and they are so much better than the ones from California. You can not beat fresh produce and our county has an open market every Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and Saturday. As a recent newsletter from MSU pointed out..... "You will also find crisp salad greens, spinach, tomatoes (from the greenhouse at Cherry Bend Farm, and sooo yummy), radishes, carrots, onions, garlic, vinegarette dressing, fresh baked pies and melt-in-your-mouth cookies, baking mixes (the cheese beer bread from Creek Side Grains is my favorite! Add a can of beer to the mix, bake, and you got yourself a delicious treat!), marshmallows (yep, handmade marshmallows, mmm--hmmm!), handmade soaps that make you wanna close your eyes when you smell them, sweet natural honey, rhubarb, sugar snap peas, pastured pork and top your dinner table off with a bees wax candle and a beautiful bouquet of fresh cut flowers. And way more!"

Free Patterns

Linda, one of our summer customers from Florida, reminded me of this pattern, Potato Chip Scarf. The great thing about this pattern is that you can use any yarn or combination of yarns. Just remember to go up several sizes on your needle. Check out Raverly for ideas. This woman only ruffled one side.
Over on Bainbridge Island in the state of Washington is a lovely yarn shop called Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. They have some wonderful patterns and the Diagonal Lace Linen Wrap or Scarf is a free pattern. It uses Louet Euroflax Sport Weight and one skein makes the scarf and two skeins make a wrap.
Cynthia stopped by to buy yarn for this pattern, Mie, a Jane Eyre shawl. She picked out a subtle colorway in Kauni. Have to admit that I have been looking at Jane Eyre type shawls and this fits the bill. Thanks, Cynthia!
And another customer brought in a cute baby hat made out of Cascade Fixation. Here is the knitted pattern. Quick and easy.
