  Yarn Hollow

There is no question that we love Yarn Hollow.  Rita is an expert at hand dying and we lust after her yarn.

We have stocked up on more of her kits and yarn.  Below are some of what we received within the past several weeks.  We do have other colorways available and can always order a different one if you wish.

Well Traveled Shawl kit - Doreen is in the process of knitting a sample of this kit.  It is beautiful.

Summer Love Sock yarn - Bamboo, cotton and elastic nylon.  If you know someone who wants socks, but does not want wool, this is the answer.   It is also nice for those of us who like wool, but want to try something different.

Opal 6 ply yarn - Love to knit socks, but want to use larger than US 1 needles?  We just received a shipment of thicker sock yarn from Opal.  You may use US 3 and these colorways are some of their favorites.

Folks have been busy knitting samples for the shoppe.

Susan knitted this cushy baby sweater from Loyal, a DK

weight machine washable wool from New Zealand.  The pattern is from Susan James.

Jill knitted a cozy shawl with the St. Denis Nordique yarn from Classic Elite.

St Denis

This is a traditional firm wool that feels soft.  The pattern comes in a booklet made specifically for St Denis.

Knitting for our Children

At this time we have received 123 knitted and crocheted items for our children and their families in Leelanau County.  I passed them on to Parenting Communities and other agencies this past Tuesday.  Read my blog post from Thursday, 1-21-10 for pictures and more information.

A big thank you to all that participated.  This is an ongoing project.  We will always have someone who can use a new gift.  Winter time requires warm clothing and folks can always use baby bibs, hats, shawls, cotton sweaters, and socks in the summer.
  Helmet Liners

Just a reminder that we are coordinating with other yarn shops throughout the nation in an effort to make enough helmet liners for all deployed members of our military.

Each helmet liner is made of 100% soft wool, using military regulations; right down to the correct colors.  The head gear protects troops from the environment, keeps them warm in the cold nighttime desert air, wicks away sweat from 120 degree daytime heat, keeps the sand away from their faces, and forms a needed cushion between their head and the helmet they must wear.

The shoppe has Nature Spun worsted wool and Mission Falls 1824 wool in the required colors of tan, black, gray, brown, and olive.  If you chose to knit from your stash, the yarn must be 100% wool - no alpaca, lama, mohair, or acrylic.  Gauge is also very important.

You may drop off your helmet liner at any time.  We will be accepting the liners and then sending them on to Yarn Heaven in Texas, where Tarie, the owner, will pass them on to the four military bases in her area.  Different units deploy at different times, so she will be handing them over to the military in groups.  We will be continuing to collect head liners until they are no longer needed.

If you wish, a personal message, inserted into the head liner, is appreciated by the troops.

If you are a crocheter, go here for your pattern and the knitters should go here for their pattern.

More Fun Than Cables Sock Pattern
This pattern is from a blog I have linked on my blog (did you follow that?).  Marguerite lives in Paw Paw and I enjoy her posts, pictures, and patterns.  I think that if we ever met in person, I would also like her.

Brownie the Cat  If you are a knitter and have some extra time, along with loving cats, check this pattern out.

2010 Washcloth  You could get started on gifts for next Christmas, or use for Valentine's Day, birthdays - you get the idea.

Henri the knitted bear  Too cute, a little bear.

Valentine's Day is coming up and here are some lovely patterns.

Knitted Hearts   - these are hearts knitted out of worsted yarn.  We have lots of Lamb's Pride in different shades of red, along with some ShiBui in pink.  You will have to be a Ravelry member to access this link.

Happy Valentine's Day Hat -  this is for the crocheters.  Again, they call for Lamb's Pride worsted.

St. Albans Valentine Cable Mitts - fingerless gloves with a valentine cable. Sock yarn and Baby Ull would be a good choice.
Special Feature

If you read our blog, you will have noticed the Featured Product on the right side of the page.  Every several weeks we will have a specific item listed at a discount.  You will need to let us know about this special when you purchase the item.
