It is a brave new world and technology is sometimes changing faster than we can keep up. However unlike Huxley’s fictional account of the future, technology is bringing us exciting new opportunities and we have the freedom to decide what is appropriate or crosses the line. With that said, there are some basic technology manners we should all remember.

  Probably the most basic, but most often forgotten rule is to silence your phone in theaters, places of worship, and meetings.

2.

  In this age of electronic devices, if you want to let someone know how important they are, try a face to face. Let’s remember that only in person can you read a person’s body language and facial expressions. Even web cameras cannot catch all the nuances unique to face to face communication. The fact that you took time out of your busy schedule to actually come and see someone will also hit the mark.

The more you do to keep your computer secure, the safer your information will be. Use these 10 tips to learn ways you can help protect your computer, your data, and your company's network.

1. Work with your IT department
Make sure that you install all of the patches and updates that your IT department recommends. In addition to installing Windows and Office updates, your IT department might require you to install additional security software, such as a firewall or custom software to help you connect from remote locations. Making these regular installations will keep your computer and your company's network as secure as possible.

Social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter connect millions of like-minded people every day through the Web. But did you know they also can help your small business connect with customers?

"Social networking can help promote a small business in two ways," says Susan Barnes, a professor and associate director for at Rochester Institute of Technology's Lab for Social Computing. "Loyal customers can create small networks and provide testimonials for the business and employees can share information with each other through social networks."

More than half of all small-business owners believe social networking sites have a place
in the business world, according to a 2008 survey by SurePayroll. And one in five companies has generated business from a social media site.
