LifeBridge Opens Doors to Its New Home
The Israelites wandered the wilderness for 40 years before entering their homeland. LifeBridge Community hasn't exactly been in the wilderness, but we've certainly dealt with many obstacles and experienced our own complicated journey to where we are today - a place we can finally call home. We are certainly grateful for those facilities

New LifeBridge Home
626 Main Street, Beech Grove | provided for us in the past. But after six years of temporary meeting rooms, of hauling supplies back and forth, of not being able to personalize by painting or hanging photos and of having our office separate from where we hold our programs, LifeBridge has opened the doors to our own building.
It was only in early August that the building became available for lease to LifeBridge. The facility had great potential, but some major renovations were needed to make it fit our needs and get it ready for fall programs. "How in the world are we going to get this done - both with labor and financially?" wondered LifeBridge Community Director Mike Crosley. The answer came in some surprising ways.

HELPING HANDS
Day after day, volunteers gave their time and talents. From painting, cleaning, drywall repair, laying tile and carpentry work to electrical, plumbing, computer, engineering and mechanical expertise, well over 100 volunteers helped to transform the building. On some days, over 50 people came forward to help. "It is absolutely overwhelming. There have been times that I had to just walk away because I would get emotional about it," said Crosley. "Many days people showed up who I didn't even know. It really touched my heart. I'd just step back and think, 'How cool is that?'"
Beyond the hundreds of hours of donated labor, materials and financial donations helped tremendously. As needs arose, people responded - with paint, floor tile, tables, plumbing supplies and much more. "Just like many remodeling projects, we had a lot of unexpected expenses. I was really sweating it," recalled Crosley. "But a significant contribution came in that really helped, along with people coming through for us time and again, and it just reminded me that God is with us and God is in this."

A NEW CHAPTER
On September 26, after five weeks of remodeling, LifeBridge began a new chapter in our mission to help children in need and for the first time began after-school programs in a building of our own. The new facility will have a big impact on the kids we serve and the community where we are located. Staff and volunteers can focus their efforts on working with children, instead of dealing with logistics and moving materials and equipment. With our new location and through a strong partnership with Beech Grove Schools, buses are transporting most kids directly to LifeBridge, freeing up huge amounts of time that can be spent helping the children.

Locating to downtown Beech Grove brings other benefits. "We were kind of invisible before. People didn't know where to find us. Now we're centrally located and visible to the community which brings a lot more credibility," said Crosley. "It's opened up a lot of doors. We're more available to people. Not a day goes by where someone doesn't come in - some wanting to know more about us, some even looking to volunteer."
Looking ahead, our hope is to utilize the building on weekends for group mentoring and other projects. In the future we want to use our facility to increase family ministries. This new home, quite simply, is a major step forward in helping LifeBridge to better serve and impact children and families in our community. |

Our building has been remodeled (mostly) and we've started after-school programs, but we still have many ongoing needs in order to serve children and families in our community. Your cash gift or your donation of simple items can really help us.

*Gift cards are very useful and flexible. We use gas cards for transporting kids on the bus (it costs $150--$200 to fill the gas tank); plus at times we help out families in need with gas cards. Restaurant gift cards are helpful because on special occasions we take the kids out to eat during field trips. The store gift cards are extremely useful for many needs; plus at times we help out families in emergencies.
Wish List
(We'll live without it, but it would be nice)
· New carpet for the building
· Large flat-panel TV
· Wii game system, Wii exercise and entertainment games
(child-friendly rating), such as Dance for children
*A large flat-panel TV will free up space and can be hung on a wall, making it easier to see for large groups of kids. The Wii video game system can be used for exercising, plus provides an opportunity for fun interaction with the adults. |

LifeBridge Stories
Leah's Story
For some children enrolled in our after-school programs, LifeBridge is
a fun place with cool activities. For others, it's
a place where volunteers
help with life and school
and simply show that
they care.
For Leah, a ninth-grader now in her fourth year in
the Youth Experiencing Success program, LifeBridge is all
of those things and
much, much more.
"LifeBridge is my second home," says Leah.
This second home is like
a second family to Leah,
and everyone at LifeBridge
is part of the family.

Automatic Giving through Your Employer
or United Way
Did you know that you may be able to give to LifeBridge through your employer and that some employers match your contributions? Around this time of year, companies have employees make arrangements for next year's health insurance, retirement and charitable campaigns. Many companies have set up a pledge program for United Way. There may be an area on a pledge sheet to write in an organization to which United Way will direct funds. If so, simply write in LifeBridge Community and we will receive your contribution. This is an easy way to set up automatic donations to LifeBridge without having to think about it throughout the year. Plus, some employers match your contribution, so it's a great way to multiply your gift to LifeBridge. Some are already contributing this way through United Way while others are giving to LifeBridge through their employer charitable contribution plan. If your company does not use United Way, then ask if you can direct your giving to LifeBridge Community. |

LifeBridge Kids Cheer on Colts
Many LifeBridge kids cheered on the Colts at their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Peyton Manning's own PeyBack Foundation generously provided three dozen tickets plus T-shirts for the game. Heavy rains forced our own pregame tailgate party indoors at the new LifeBridge facility. Kids enjoyed dinner and games before heading to Lucas Oil Stadium for the showdown. Despite Manning being out with injury, the kids witnessed a great contest that came down to the wire. Though the Colts lost, everyone had a great time. Thank you PeyBack Foundation!

Summer to Remember
This past summer LifeBridge hosted an eight-week day camp for 50 children in grades K-9. The program provided many rich experiences that helped children learn about God, have fun and develop relationships with responsible adults.

LifeBridge kids enjoying a trip to
the Indiana Transportation Museum |
HIStory Camp took kids back in time for an overview of some major events in history. From Creation through the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, children learned how history is also part of God's story. LifeBridge kids spent part of their days in reading groups, storytelling and Bible lessons. The children then enjoyed many exciting field trips, with stops at the Indiana Transportation Museum, the Children's Museum, Kelsay Farms, Conner Prairie, the Indiana War Memorial, the Indiana State Museum and Learning Curves Library. Older children experienced a very moving visit to the National Underground Railroad Museum in Cincinnati, where they learned about slavery in U.S. history as well as the tragedy of modern slavery and human trafficking.
LifeBridge also sponsored 20 children for a weeklong adventure at Mahoning Valley Christian Service Camp. The children were very enthusiastic and described it as one of the best weeks of their lives. Jessica Lemons was even selected as Camper of the Week.
Children also enjoyed swimming, a trip to the movies and Vacation Bible School. Many thanks to the volunteers and supporters who helped to create fun and meaningful memories for our LifeBridge kids.
