Greetings!

Greetings!

We on the Maryknoll Northwest team would like to welcome the many new members of our monthly e-newsletter!

Recently, the Maryknoll Vocations Facebook Page shared this message: "Why must we go out to the far ends of the world to preach the Gospel of Jesus when people do not have to know Jesus in order to enter the house of God?  We must go out because we want to share with all people the abundant love and hope, joy and peace that Jesus brought to us."

I think that this message beautifully speaks to what it means to be a Christian in all aspects of our lives.  We are invited to proclaim, promote, and participate in what is good in the world. Often, we see our call only in terms of preventing or ending what is bad or objectionable: abortion, war, violence, abuse, destruction of the earth.  All of these need to be prevented, of course, but we need to first ask ourselves: "Do we proclaim, through word and action, that life is good?"  Do we share and live the gift of peace and nonviolence?  Of solidarity and respect?  Do we experience and share the wonder of creation?  And do we do all
these things with the joy of Christ
?

Joy and goodness are where we need to begin.  We at Maryknoll hope to continue to share in that joy and goodness with you, the local community, and with our brothers and sisters around the world.  We invite you to join us for our mission forums; our training/education sessions, talks, and workshops; our immersion opportunities; and our partnerships with local Catholics, Christians, and members of other faiths.  We look forward to staying in touch!

Peace,

Maryknoll offers immersion opportunities for people looking to enter into relationship with people beyond our borders, particularly those on the margins of society.  Grow in faith, see the world anew, and answer the call to solidarity with the world.

Immersion Opportunities for Catholic Educators: This past June, we took eight Catholic school teachers on a powerful immersion experience to Guatemala.  We will soon announce details of our 2013 teacher immersion program, and if you want to be on the list to receive that information as soon as it is available, please fill out this online form.

Bolvia Immersion Program: The Maryknoll Bolivia Mission Immersion Program offers exposure trips and volunteer opportunities as a way of introducing North Americans to mission, to cross-cultural engagement, and to the realities of Bolivia. Join us, the Maryknoll Lay Missioners, Brothers, Sisters, and Priests for what is sure to be a formative and transformative experience of life alongside the Bolivian people. For more information, click here.

Over 50 friends of Maryknoll Lay Missioners gathered at the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers house in Seattle on the evening of Thursday, August 23, to share a pot luck meal followed by prayer and an update on Maryknoll Lay Missioners given by Executive Director, Sam Stanton.

The Maryknoll Lay Missioners come from all over the United States and a wide variety of backgrounds to serve in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.  As Maryknoll Lay Missioners, young adults, families, retirees, and professionals in a second career live and work among the poor and marginalized throughout the world.

"If you have faith, everything you ask for in prayer, you will receive." (Matthew 21:22)

Does this mean that those with true faith will get everything that they ask for, or does it mean that faith requires us to realize what not to ask for - what we do not need from the Lord?

What do you need from the Lord at this moment, and what does faith require you to let go of?
