News from Maryknoll Northwest |
Greetings!
Greetings!
Too often, we see our best efforts only in terms of failure. That act of kindness that we offer has been rejected; that story about our time in Africa has fallen on deaf ears. The world around us rarely changes in the manner and speed that we would hope.
When we get bogged down with these frustrations, it helps to let go of what we want from others, and to instead ask what God wants from us. Does God want us to force other people to act a certain way, or to walk in the footsteps of Christ? Does God expect us to change the way others think, or to plant seeds that they can choose to let flourish?
One of the ways that God challenges us through Jesus is to see love as an accomplishment in its own right. We are not creating a kingdom, but moving toward's God's Kingdom. When we strive to live as Jesus did, we aid others in that journey, though in ways that we often cannot understand. We also allow others to aid us, knowing that, like them, we are beggars searching for the food of God's love.
This summer, Maryknoll will again visit local parishes to invite people on this journey of mission, and to plant the seeds of God's boundless love for all humanity. We hope that you have the opportunity to attend Mass at one of these parishes, to hear from a missioner about his experience of God's love through our brothers and sisters living beyond our borders. And, as always, we hope that you will continue to help us find nourishment and guidance in witnessing that love to the world.
Peace,
Kevin Foy and the Maryknoll Team

Mission Forums
We want to thank everyone that participated in our April mission forum, especially our speaker, Veronica Holland. Veronica has been accepted into the Lay Missioners and will start her new journey in September!
With a busy summer of visiting parishes, we do not intend to hold mission forums over the next few months. We may have a summer forum if we have the chance to engage with a unique speaker who otherwise would not be available, so stay tuned!
As always, you can sign up to receive Mission Forum Announcements here.

Reflection
Prayer
"If you have faith, everything you ask for in prayer, you will receive." (Matthew 21:22)
When we pray, we so often present our wants and needs to God, but God knows our needs better than we ourselves do. If we have faith that God will provide for those needs, we can allow our prayers to bring us closer to God and to the needs of others.
Do you pray mostly for your wants and needs? How can you trust God more in your prayers? How can your prayers focus more on the needs of others?
