Greetings from Maryknoll!

Spirit of PentecostAnother period of transition is upon us: the Easter season concludes wtih Pentecost, when Jesus' disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and exited their hiding place to proclaim the Good News of God's love in the world.

Young people everywhere are graduating and moving on to their next adventure in school or career and so we pray that they carry with them the spirit of Pentecost and follow their hearts.

Here at Maryknoll we are well underway with our parish visit season.  See the schedule below of where our missioners will be this summer.

We hope to see you soon!

Peace,
 Kris

Taize Prayer Gathering

Second
Wednesday of the Month
at 7 pm

Taize is a meditative common prayer using song, chants, scripture, reflection and periods of contemplative silence, a prayer that does not end, but continues in the silence of the heart. Within this sacred space one is drawn into a deeper awareness of God's presence; it is a prayerful opportunity for self-reflection.

Contemplative prayer is seen as a critical path in mission.   It is through prayer that we are connected with God and it is in the silence of our hearts that God communicates and shares with us God's mission of love for the world.

Taize will be held the second Wednesday of every month in the Chapel at the Maryknoll Center at 16642 Ashland Avenue, San Lorenzo. The hour long service will start at 7:00 p.m. with Ruth Picha.  Ruth is a Spiritual Director, who trained at Mercy Center in Burlingame.

The Presence of God

When we read the story of Abraham, we see a human being just like us. He too is trying to prosper in life. In and through this effort he came to encounter the true God. But God was no closer to Abraham than God is to us today. Why, then, do we not encounter God today? Perhaps it is because our sight is bad. We are so preoccupied with a particular image of God that we feel that something else cannot possibly be God. Our receiving set is not tuned to the same wavelength that God is using to send out the summons. The God who was revealed to Abraham, our God, is a God of human beings. Morever, God is not afraid to hide. You may not see a butterfly when are out hunting eagles; you may overlook the flowers if you are looking for trees.
God is present and is revealed in many things: in a mother's dedication to her family, in the labor of  a working man for his children, in the struggle of our people to create a more humane world, in the joy produced by the presence of a friend, and in the mutual interchange of understanding and consolation.  It is in such things that we discover the presence of God and gradually trace the lines of God's face. -
