Greetings!

Greetings!

Good things continue to happen for mission!  On February 24th, we co-hosted a gathering of teachers at our Maryknoll Mission House in Seattle, in partnership with the Catholic Schools Department and Mission Office of the Archdiocese (read more below).

One key reflection from the discussions at this event was that as educators, parents, and members of our community, we are always living and teaching mission.  We are called to share God's love, to help those in need of help, to advocate on behalf of peace and justice, and to embrace not only our friends and families, but all of those  whom we encounter, and our brothers and sisters from around the globe.  In doing this, and in spreading these values to the children under our care, we are living mission.

Please read more about what is going on in Seattle and the Northwest in regards to mission below.  One event that you may want to take note of is the upcoming Catholic African Connections Conference, taking place on April 2nd.

Peace,

Teacher Dinner 2011
Bishop Joseph Tyson (right) and Assitant Superintendant Sandra Barton-Smith (center), whith third-grade teacher Stephanie Schuler.

On Thursday, February 24th, the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers hosted a gathering of teachers using or interested in using Maryknoll materials in the classroom.  This event was co-hosted by the Catholic Schools Department and the Missions Office of the Archdiocese of Seattle.

Maryknoll thanks all of the teachers that participated, and would like to offer special thanks to Bishop Joseph Tyson, Superintendant of Catholic Schools, Sandra Barton-Smith, Assistant Superintendant, and J.L. Drouhard, Director of the Missions Office, for their participation and support.

The enthusiasm for mission on behalf of all of these participants was astounding and inspiring.  Maryknoll looks forward to continuing to work with teachers, schools, and the Archdiocese to incorporate the Gospel call to mission across the curriculum.

In the meantime, please peruse our Mission Education Best Practices Blog, as well as our Resources for Teachers and Catechists.

As always, if you ever have any ideas of your own about how to further mission education, please email them to kfoy@maryknoll.org.

Reflection

Cambodia

Before His death, Jesus broke bread with His disciples, offering Himself to them despite whatever ways that they had failed Him.  He knew that Peter would deny Him; He knew that Judas would betray Him.  Following His example, we are called to offer our own love and service to all people, even those that may have wronged us.

Who do you need to forgive in your own life?  How do we find the strength to "break bread" with those that have done us harm?
