Movie Night: Slumdog Millionaire

Monday, March 7th
6:30 pm
Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) is just one question away from winning a fortune on India's version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But how has this uneducated young man from the slums succeeded in providing correct responses to questions that have stumped countless scholars before him? And will he ultimately win it all or lose everything, including his true love?
This movie is offered in conjunction with the St. John the Baptist Parish Faith Formation Program. A discussion of the film will follow.
NOTE: The movie will be shown at the Maryknoll Center, not the Meeting Room by the Gym. |

Saturday, April 2nd to
Wednesday, April 6
St. John the Baptist, San Lorenzo
Join us for a Lenten Parish Mission at St. John the Bapist in San Lorenzo. Our Maryknoll team will preach at all the weekend masses.
Saturday: Vigil 4:30 pm (English) 6:30pm (Hispanic)
Sunday: 7:30, 9:30, 11:30 am, 2:00 pm (Hispanic)

Reflection on our recent Retreat Weekend
Don Henely's song "The Heart of the Matter" talks about forgiveness, even if you don't love me anymore. We used that song as a meditation at our liturgy during our Forgiveness Retreat this weekend. As it played in the chapel, the fifteen of us on the retreat together hung homemade peace cranes on a bare branch.
The visual image as the branch came alive with the color of the birds was stunning. Perhaps what made it so impressive to us was the hard work and frustration that went into making the cranes. While I thought I was quite skilled at making paper airplanes and those little triangular "footballs" we used in school, the cranes were surprisingly difficult.

Taize Prayer Gathering
Second
Wednesday of the Month
at 7 pm
Next :
Wednesday, Mar. 9th (Ash Wed.)
Taize is a meditative common prayer using song, chants, scripture, reflection and periods of contemplative silence, a prayer that does not end, but continues in the silence of the heart. Within this sacred space one is drawn into a deeper awareness of God's presence; it is a prayerful opportunity for self-reflection.
Contemplative prayer is seen as a critical path in mission. It is through prayer that we are connected with God and it is in the silence of our hearts that God communicates and shares with us God's mission of love for the world.
Taize will be held the second Wednesday of every month in the Chapel at the Maryknoll Center at 16642 Ashland Avenue, San Lorenzo. The hour long service will start at 7:00 p.m. with Ruth Picha. Ruth is a Spiritual Director, who trained at Mercy Center in Burlingame.
