Greetings!

Greetings!  Summer finds many of our Maryknollers out in the parishes doing mission appeals.   This is our primary way to invite folks to sign up for the Maryknoll Magazine.  We still have a few openings in August and September if you want a Maryknoller to come to your parish.   More info...

AfricaThis summer we turn our attention to Africa.   (The World Cup wasn't enough.)  We have two great events coming up.  First, we welcome two Congolese women for a presentation on the challenges facing the people there.  Second, we will screen the acclaimed movie, Throw Down Your Heart, a journey to Africa that celebrates how music joins people together in solidarity.   More information below and on our Facebook page.

Speaking of Facebook, we welcome back our summer helper, Michael Dulka, a student at Seattle University.  This is his third summer helping us out in the office.  Check out our new Facebook page he's helped put together to promote global solidarity:  Distant Relatives.

We are excited to announce that we're looking for a full time mission promoter to assist us in Southern California.   If you know anyone who might be interested, please encourage them to check out the job announcement.

Peace,

Deacon Matt Dulka
Regional Director

Mission Forum:  Washa Tala: Shining a Light on the Crisis in the Congo

Monday, August 2nd at 7pm
St. John the Baptist Meeting Room
264 Lewelling  Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA 94580

CongoJoin us as we welcome Catholic Relief Services Partner Mathilde Muhindo Mwamini and staff member Olun Kamitatu from the Democratic Republic of Congo. They will discuss the crisis in the Congo and the impact of "conflict minerals" such as coltan, a critical component for the production of cell phones, laptops, and other electronics. We can help the people of the DRC by reducing the ability of armed groups to finance violence with illicitly mined conflict minerals. Don't miss meeting these two women who are shining a light in the darkness to bring peace and prosperity to the Congolese people.

Movie Night:  Bela Fleck, Throw Down Your Heart

St. John the Baptist Meeting Room
264 Lewelling  Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA 94580

Throw Down Your HeartWhen world-renowned banjoist Bela Fleck realized that his instrument had lost its musical heritage, he decided to make a pilgrimage to Africa to rediscover the banjo's folk music roots.  Overflowing with the incredible music of Fleck and the many celebrated folk musicians who hosted him in Africa, BELA FLECK: THROW DOWN YOUR HEART follows the banjo virtuoso on a musical adventure that takes him from Uganda to Tanzania and from Gambia to Mali. A multi-award-winning film captures one of the world's greatest musicians demonstrating how music transcends languages, cultures, and continents.
