Inspiring meditations from a leading Black Catholic writer combined with stunning art from Africa offer a unique spiritual journey for this Lent or any time of the year.

Greetings!

Greetings from Maryknoll!

LentLent is here.   Our opportunity to reflect, repent and renew ourselves.

David Stang will be with us this Friday, February 26th at 7 pm.  He is the brother of Sr. Dorothy Stang, who was martyred in Brazil for her work with the poor and to preserve the rainforests.  We will screen the documentary on her life, "They Killed Sr. Dorothy."   Following the movie, David will make a brief presentation.

Our Maryknoll team will be at Catholic Community of Pleasanton for a Parish Mission beginning Saturday, March 6th.  In addition to the weekend masses, we will give presentations for adults on Monday through Wednesday in the morning and evening and presentations for the children in the faith formation prgram throughout the week.   The theme will be "What They Taught Us: How our encounter with our brothers and sisters around the world challenge and deepen our faith and understanding of God."  We'd love to see you there.

DesktopWe will also be at the LA Religious Education Congress March 18-21.   Stop by and visit our booth and enter our drawing for an Acer Aspire One Notebook.   If you're not going to be there, enter online ahead of time.

We continue to gather for Morning Prayer at our chapel at 9 am each morning (Monday - Friday).  Please join us.

Wishing you peace on behalf of the Mission Team,
Deacon Matt

Movies that Matter:  Bella Romero

RomeroMonday March 1, 2010
6:30 pm
Join us for our monthly educational movie night, co-sponsored by Maryknoll and the Adult Faith Formation Program at St. John the Baptist Parish. The first Monday of each month will offer a new movie that inspires or takes us deeper in our faith and understanding of our connections with others. Refreshments will be provided and the movie will be followed by a discussion.

Join us as we remember and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the martyrdom of Archbishop Romero.

Romero
is a compelling and deeply moving look at the life of Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador, who made the ultimate sacrifice in a passionate stand against social injustice and oppression in his country.

This film chronicles the transformation of Romero from an apolitical, complacent priest to a committed leader of the Salvadoran people.

Acclaimed actor Raul Julia (KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN) stars as this man of God forced by the unspeakable events going on around him to take a stand -- a stand that ultimately leads to his assassination in 1980 at the hands of the military junta.

David Stang received a phone call in 2005: his sister Dorothy Stang, a missioner in the Amazon rainforest, had been shot and killed.  David put off retirement and hit the road with an award-winning documentary "They Killed Sister Dorothy" appearing at film festivals and public forums.  He's traveled several times to Brazil for the trials of those accused of carrying out Dorothy's cold-blooded murder.  Don't miss this exciting documentary and opportunity to meet David Stang.
