Greetings!

Greetings from Maryknoll!

I realize that you've probably been inundated with opportunities to respond to the suffering in Haiti following the earthquake.  If you're interested in joining our efforts, Fr. Romane St. Vil, a Maryknoll priest and native of Haiti will be coordinating our response.   Click here for more information.

We are excited to have David Stang, the brother of Sr. Dorothy Stang, who was martyred in Brazil for her work with the poor and to preserve the rainforests, join us for  screening of a documentary on her life.   "They Killed Sr. Dorothy" will be shown on Friday, February 26th at 7 pm at our Mission Center followed by a short presentation and reception for David.

Wishing you peace on behalf of the Mission Team,
Deacon Matt

Join us for our monthly educational movie night, co-sponsored by Maryknoll and the Adult Faith Formation Program at St. John the Baptist Parish. The first Monday of each month will offer a new movie that inspires or takes us deeper in our faith and understanding of our connections with others. Refreshments will be provided and the movie will be followed by a discussion.

Dorothy Day, one of the most dynamic and beloved religious figures in modern history, is brought to life by Sarah Melici in this acclaimed one-woman play. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1897, Day made her mark as a journalist, social activist and a devout convert to Catholicism. Co-founder of the Catholic Worker Newspaper/Movement in 1933, Dorothy Day is perhaps best known for her long battle for peace and justice on behalf of the poor and homeless. Dorothy died in 1980. Her work continues today around the world in over 180 Catholic Worker Communities protesting injustice and violence in all forms.  52 minutes.

David Stang received a phone call in 2005: his sister Dorothy Stang, a missioner in the Amazon rainforest, had been shot and killed.  David put off retirement and hit the road with an award-winning documentary "They Killed Sister Dorothy" appearing at film festivals and public forums.  He's traveled several times to Brazil for the trials of those accused of carrying out Dorothy's cold-blooded murder.  Don't miss this exciting documentary and opportunity to meet David Stang.
