Summer Assist
Michael Dulka
You may hear a new voice answering the phone.  We are happy to have Michael Dulka back for the summer helping in the Regional Office.  Michael provides office support, including processing donations from mission appeals.   Michael will be a freshman at Seattle University in the fall.

Greetings!

We hope that you are having a great summer.  For us, summer is one of the busiest times of the year.   Particularly during July and August, our Maryknoll missioners are hitting the road and visiting parishes to share their mission experiences, encouraging folks to stay in touch through the Maryknoll Magazine and helping to support the mission effort.  Throughout the west, we will be in close to a hundred parishes.  If you want to hear a Maryknoller at a parish near you, check the online calendar.

Movie nights are back and start next Monday with the award winning BellaDetails below. There are no Mission Forums during the summer, but we're eagerly looking forward to them starting back up on September 8th when Deacon Herb and Peggy Casey and Kris East share their adventures from their pilgrimage to El Salvador.

Happy 4th of JulyHave a good 4th of July.  As we celebrate the blessings and freedom we share, let's keep in our minds and prayers those throughout the world who suffer political, religious and economic oppression.

Wishing you peace on behalf of the Mission Team,

Deacon Matt

St. John the Baptist Parish

Movie Night is back!  Starting next week we begin a monthly educational movie night, co-sponsored by Maryknoll and the Adult Faith Formation Program at St. John the Baptist Parish. The first Monday of each month will offer a new movie that inspires or takes us deeper in our faith and understanding of our connections with others.

Join us for opening night Monday, July 6th when we will be showing Bella. Award winning story of an international soccer star on his way to sign a multi-million dollar contract when a series of events unfold that bring his career to an abrupt end. A beautiful waitress, struggling to make it in New York City, discovers something about herself that she's unprepared for. In one irreversible moment, their lives are turned upside down... until a simple gesture of kindness brings them together, turning an ordinary day into an unforgettable experience. The film is rated PG-13 for thematic elements and brief disturbing images. Runtime 90 minutes.  Movie will be followed by refreshments and discussion.

Mission Forum:  Pilgrimage to El Salvador

Children in El Salvador
Tues. Sept. 8th
7:30 pm
Join us at our September Mission Forum on Sept. 8th for a presentation on the pilgrimage to El Salvador.   In June, Mission Promotion Coordinator Kris East and Mission Promoters Deacon Herb and Peggy Casey journeyed to El Salvador to walk in the footsteps of the martyrs and experience first hand the faith and struggles of the Salvadoran people.

Kris reports:  "I accompanied 6 others on a pilgrimage to the sites of the martyrs in El Salvador.  Our guides were Matt Rousso from the Maryknoll New Orleans Mission Office and Fr. Bill Donnelly, MM.  This was my first visit to Latin America.  I've watched the movie "Romero" many times and it was very compelling to visit the places and see the names of those depicted in the film.  Even more compelling was to hear the stories of so many Salvadoreņos who either lost family during the civil war or who survived by hiding in caves in the mountains.  We also visited a soybean project operated by a lay missioner and an AIDS clinic operated by a Maryknoll Sister/Physician."

Sheridan School Children Sharing with Others
Holy Name Parish in Sheridan, Wyoming, invited Maryknoll Mission Promoter, Fr. Tom McCormick to come and give a Parish Mission in May.  Under the leadership of Pastor Fr. Tom Ogg, the parish is committed to stewardship, which includes the children in the parish school.   As a part of their faith formation the students are encouraged to share their resources with others through a collection at a monthly school Mass.

Fr. Tom was fortunate enough to be at one of these school masses and shared with them the work of Maryknoll and importance of participating in the mission of Jesus.  When their Principal, Ms. Colleen Model, asked the students where they wanted their total year's collection of  $1,509.82 to be sent, they voted to send it to the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers.   The photo shows the children of Holy Name placing their offerings at one of the school Masses.   What a wonderful example of children reaching out to help others in need across the globe.
