During this month's Forum, we will view the opening episode of the "Unnatural Causes" documentary. This documentary explores health disparities in communities of color across the U.S. Our episode is entitled, "In Sickness and in Wealth," in which we will travel to Louisville, KY to discover what makes us sick. The lives of a CEO, lab supervisor, janitor and unemployed mother, will illustrate how social class shapes access to power, resources and opportunity, resulting in a health-wealth gradient. On average, people at the top, live longer, healthier lives. Those at the bottom are more disempowered, get sicker more often and die sooner. Most of us fall somewhere in between. There will be a discussion after the viewing. |
