Friday Monthly Mission Forum for March 2009

Our presentation this month will discuss the devastating childbirth injury called obstetric fistula. This injury is the result of a multitude of factors such as gender inequity, lack of education and medical care and scarce resources. And while it is a horrible, isolating condition, it is both preventable and treatable. Kristin is eager to tell you about the ways Maryknoll Lay Missioner Liz Mach is working with One By One, to address this condition in Tanzania and to shine a light on the struggles of girls and young women in the developing world.

Kristin Goddard Sartain is a former sixth grade teacher and mother of four children. In addition to being at home with her kids, she volunteers through One By One, a Seattle-based nonprofit organization which seeks to end the condition of obstetric fistula, which exists for millions of women in the developing world.
