Dear Residents and Businesses of Ward 20,
The summit is here and the city is prepared as best it can to host the event.
Over the last two months my office has been sending security updates, holding town halls and advocating on behalf of residents, small business and large institutions in the ward. In this newsletter you will find a summary of key items in past communications as well as the most up-to-date information related to security and contingency planning. As with all summit security information, details are subject to change without notice.
During the summit my office will be on 24 hour alert to deal with issues and conditions as they emerge. As your councillor, I'm participating in daily confidential briefings with the City Manager's office. If you, your condo board, property manager or business need information, the Ward 20 team is here to assist as best we can.

Security Perimeter Map

Beginning Friday June 25, motorists entering the Traffic Zone (outlined as blue line on map), you will be stopped by a member of the police, asked for identification and to state your purpose for entering the area. This will cause serious traffic disruptions and delays throughout the surrounding areas in downtown.
Those who need to access the Security Perimeter (yellow line on map) will face longer delays as they will be required to show identification and have a purpose for entering. Those who live and work in this area have been registered so they can access the area more efficiently.
At the discretion of the police officer, anyone requesting access to the security perimeter may be subject to search. Vehicles will be subject to an external search using a mirror to access the undercarriage and trunks will be searched. These searches are being done for security purposes to assist police with providing a safe environment for the Summit.
Police have planned for the public to be able to move throughout the Traffic and Security zones until the evening of Friday June 25 - unless security reasons dictate an increase in control of the area. The security perimeter is planned to be reopened to traffic by Monday morning after the summit has ended.

Traffic Impacts in Ward 20

There will be police officers stationed at intersections throughout the Traffic Zone that will work to re-direct traffic around the area. Traffic management plans have been developed for each area within the Traffic Zone to route vehicles to and from different destinations with the area. Motorists in the downtown core should expect significant delays.

Public Transit Impacts

TTC
TTC service will be running as uninterrupted as possible. Union Station will be open but Front Street exits will not be in use between Friday and Sunday.
The 509 HARBOURFRONT and 510 SPADINA streetcars will be running their normal routes but will not be stopping at Queens Quay Station which will be closed Friday through Sunday.
There will be slight diversions along the following routes:
6/A BAY, 72A/B PAPE, 97/320 YONGE, DUFFERIN 29B & 29D and 503 KINGSTON RD.
GO Transit
GO Transit is planning to operate regular service during the G20 Summit. Any changes will be communicated by GO as soon as possible via local media and
www.gotransit.com.
Toronto Island Ferry Service
The Toronto Island Ferry passenger service will be operating on a normal schedule. However, you can expect traffic disruptions in the immediate area.
Island residents travelling to and from Ward's Island will not be permitted to access the Onigara Ferry on the last trip from Thursday, June 24 to Monday, June 28, 2010.
A public passenger ferry will be re-routed to accommodate Island residents. Once the ferry is docked at the mainland, all passengers including Island residents, will exit the terminal via the west walkway.

Greater Toronto Traffic Impacts
____________________
From Thursday June 24 to Sunday June 27, the public should expect closures and restrictions on the highways in and around Toronto due to G20 security operations.
Motorists should expect delays and should avoid these routes during the identified periods if possible. The use of public transit is strongly recommended during that time. Signs will be posted along the highway corridors to advise motorists of the closures, restrictions and the anticipated significant delays.
Traffic flow will be significantly impacted on:
· Gardiner Expressway
· Queen Elizabeth Way
· Highway 427
· Highway 401
· Don Valley Parkway
· connecting arterial roads
· all routes to and from Lester B. Pearson International Airport
These closures will affect inbound traffic into Toronto on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and outbound traffic on Sunday.
The following are more details on when and where to expect delays:
Thursday June 24 to Saturday June 26
Lane reductions on Highway 401 eastbound collectors to Highway 427 southbound at Renforth Avenue: expect significant delays.
Highway 427 southbound collector lanes: expect periodic full closures and significant delays.
Highway 427 southbound express ramp to the eastbound Gardiner Expressway: expect periodic full closures and significant delays.
Southbound Highway 427 traffic will be required to exit to westbound QEW during these periods.
The eastbound QEW/Gardiner Expressway: expect periodic full closures and significant delays during these periods. At Highway 427, all eastbound traffic will be re-routed to Highway 427 northbound. The eastbound York, Bay, Yonge Streets exit will be closed.
Highway 401 eastbound ramp to Renforth Avenue and the on-ramps from Renforth Avenue to Highway 427 southbound will also experience periodic closures.
Highway 27 southbound will be periodically closed at the 401 overpass during periods when Highway 427 southbound collector lanes are closed. During these periods there will be no access to Highway 427 collector lanes from Highway 27: expect significant delays.
There will be no access from Highway 427 southbound express to Holiday Dr and Burnhamthorpe Rd.
Sunday June 27
Gardiner Expressway westbound: expect periodic full closures and significant delays which may also affect the Don Valley Parkway southbound and the westbound York Street exit will be closed.
Highway 427 northbound collector lanes from Browns Line to Highway 401 will be closed from early morning Sunday until late evening: expect significant delays. During this period there will be no access to the Highway 427 northbound collector lanes from any ramps.
Eglinton Avenue West will be closed between Highway 427 and Renforth Ave.

What's Open?
· All Toronto Public Libraries are open regularly scheduled hours
(except Urban Affairs Library in Metro Hall - closed Friday; Queens Quay bookmobile stop on Friday and Ward's Island bookmobile stop on Saturday will be cancelled)
· Royal Ontario Museum
· St. Lawrence Market
· Toronto Jazz Festival
· Grocery stores
· Canada Post mail delivery service
· LCBO stores outside of Summit area:
including Atrium on Bay (Bay and Dundas), Manulife Centre (Bay and Bloor), Hudson's Bay Centre (Yonge and Bloor), Yonge and Wellesley, Liberty Village, Parliament and Gerrard
· Many independent restaurants and stores in Ward 20, including Kensington Market, Chinatown, Baldwin Village, Annex, Harbord Village and Seaton Village. Please get out and support them!
What's Closed?
· PATH underground system (Fri pm to Mon am, regular hours resume on Mon)
· Metro Hall (on Sat and Sun)
· Art Gallery of Ontario (Sat & Sun w/ early Fri closure)
· Rogers Centre (Fri, Sat & Sun Blue Jays games relocated)
· Mirvish Theatres on King St. W. [Mamma Mia! & Rock of Ages] (Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun)
· CN Tower (Fri, Sat & Sun)
· University of Toronto - St. George campus
· Canada Post mail boxes in downtown core area have been removed from street
· Canada Post retail outlets - Fri 2pm closure in downtown core:
Atrium on Bay, Toronto Station B (Spadina and Adelaide), 31 Adelaide St E, First Canadian Place (100 King St W) Commerce Court (25 King St W), Toronto Dominion (66 Wellington St W)
· 7 LCBO Stores:
Queens Quay (2 Cooper St), First Canadian Place, Union Station, St. Lawrence Market (87 Front St E), Loblaws Plaza (10 Lower Jarvis St), King & Spadina, Spadina & Baldwin
· Centreville Amusement Park (Fri, Sat, Sun)
Schools and Child Care
The following schools will be closed on Thursday & Friday this week:
· Alpha Alternative JS
· Beverley PS
· Island Public/Natural Science School
· Ogden Junior PS
· Orde Street Junior PS
· St. Joseph College School
· St. Michael Choir School
· The Waterfront School
Although other schools in the City remain open although all bus service has been cancelled by all of the publicly funded school boards on Friday.
