What needs to be included in a community-based and responsive employment Support Services Model?
 
 
 
The Government of Ontario is changing Employment Ontario programs provided by agencies across the province.
 
The changes will be effective in the fall of 2010.
 
Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office is inviting you to a community forum on the employment support services available and needed in the community.
 
 
 
The forum will be an opportunity for us to provide an overview of the proposed new employment support services model and how the new model meets the needs of the community.

Thorncliffe Soccer Registration - Summer League  

Registration for the 2010 summer season of the Thorncliffe Soccer League will be next weekend as per the details below. The summer league starts on May 15.
 
Date:  Saturday April 17 and Sunday April 18
Time:  11:00 am to 4:00 pm each day
Place:  East York Town Centre, Centre Court  (inside the mall near Zellers)
 
Fee:  $15.00 per player
Ages:  6 to 18  (borns in years 1993 to 2002)

Job - Team Leader, Serve up the Summer Program 
 
Main Location: Flemingdon Park Community (1-2 positions)
Start & End Dates: June 21, 2010 - August 27, 2010
Hours: Full-time, 40 hrs/wk (may involve occasional evening or weekend work)
Pay Rate: $14/ hr.

Description: The Team Leader reports to the Program Coordinator and is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the activities of up to 12 or 13 youth in a Serve! summer team. The Team Leader provides leadership and support for youth participants (13 - 16 yrs. old) in achieving team and personal goals.

Responsibilities:
ˇ Coordinates, facilitates, supports and supervises the involvement of all youth participants so as to effectively deliver the Serve up the Summer program
ˇ Collaborates with the Program Coordinator and other staff in planning, review and evaluation of the program and in developing goals, program activities and educational workshops
ˇ Helps organize, supervises and participates in community service projects as well as maintains positive relationships with community partners
ˇ Travels with and supervises youth team for commuting to/from community projects & field trips
ˇ Coordinates and facilitates youth participants in team activities and initiatives (i.e. group challenges, discussions, special projects)
ˇ Maintains program statistics, records, and reports on progress towards program and team goals
ˇ Participates in outreach/recruitment and selection of youth participants where possible
ˇ Participates in staff meetings, training, and other team-building activities
ˇ Works with and supports/supervises program volunteers as needed
ˇ Participates constructively in ongoing supervision and evaluation of personal performance as well as upon completion of the program/position
ˇ Provides a final written report on team and summer program
ˇ Performs general administrative duties as required.

Requirements:
ˇ Experience and ability to work with youth and diverse populations, particularly youth facing barriers and challenges
ˇ Strong organizational and coordinating skills
ˇ Ability to work independently and in a team setting
ˇ Good stamina and energetic
ˇ Ability to manage stress and challenging situations
ˇ Good communication, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
ˇ Experience in and commitment to anti-oppression work
ˇ Demonstrated positive role modeling ability and professional conduct
ˇ Knowledge and familiarity with Flemingdon Park & Thorncliffe Park area is an asset
ˇ Experience in group facilitation, popular education and group development are assets
ˇ Attend and participate in orientation and training for the position

This opportunity would only be for a full-time student returning to school full-time in the fall 2010.
