Coming up on May 23, we are discussing a novel by Muriel Barbery, entitled The Elegance of the Hedgehog. Member Joyce S. recommended this book, originally published in Europe in 2006 and then later translated into English; the novel captures the observations of a middle-aged French concierge and a troub led 12-year old girl. The B&N synopsis notes the this book is: "A moving, funny, triumphant novel that exalts the quiet victories of the inconspicuous among us." Moroccan-born author Barbery was raised in France and is currently a professor of philosophy. More about Barbery, including interviews, book club ideas, and information on her other works, is available at her fan-created website: click for www.murielbarbery.com . Side Note: Two of the books we've enjoyed from our Reading List have recently been made into movies: Sarah Gruen's Water for Elephants , starring Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon, opened last month (click here for information about the film).
