I hope everyone is enjoying this month's hilarious "tale of the Trail" by Bill Bryson and is planning to join us at 7:00 p.m. on February 28th for our regularly scheduled 4th Monday night Book Discussion meeting at the Carrollwood Cultural Center. The title of this month's book is A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail, by the well-known travel writer/humorist, Bill Bryson.   See below for more info and background about Bryson, the A.T., etc.

Continued thanks to Jean K. for her efforts in working with the Jimmie B. Keel Library staff.  That said, and despite Jean's coordinating for our entire 2011 Reading List, please be advised that the Hillsborough County Library system has suffered staff cutbacks and they are not able at this time to provide all the Book Club services that they have so kindly done in years past.  After April, Jean has learned, we will be "on our own" to secure library copies or other copies of our selections. We can talk about alternatives, during our next meeting or two, and I can recap them in an email for everyone.

Bill Bryson is laugh-out-loud funny in this book about his own trek along the Appalachian Trail, or "A.T." is it is called.

Click the FEATURES tab at the bottom of the Barnes and Noble site for background information about the book, including an interview of Bryson and a Meet the Writer page.

In the story, Bryson does focus on the serious side of trail life and about conservancy issues regarding the forests; click here to find the A.T. Conservancy website if you want to know more about the "stewards" of the trail; examine some interactive maps; and find current news/updates for today's hikers.

Read more about the author and his other works at his home page:  click here.
