Greetings!
Click to find the: This month, we're reading an engaging story entitled The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. The novel, suggested by Ray O., has wide appeal and is indeed diffcult to put down.
For the meeting tomorrow night, 7:00 p.m., let's convene in the lobby of the Cultural Center, as usual, and then proceed upstairs.
Reminder: we are skipping the book discussion in June; actually, we're combining June with July, in order to give us plenty of time to enjoy Ayn Rand's lengthy novel, Atlas Shrugged. Sooo...turn over TWO pages on your calendar, and mark the next meeting as July 26.

The Shadow of the Wind
May 24 Next up, on May 24, we'll discuss a novel that has been wildly popular in Spain ("the most successful novel in Spanish publishing history after DON QUIXOTE") and has been translated into English and over 30 other languages.
You'll want to read more about this popular author: CLICK to visit Zafon's website, where you'll find a bio of the author, information on Shadow of the Wind and his other novels, and even an interactive map of Barcelona that follows the paths taken in the story!
The B&N website provides this backdrop:
"Barcelona, 1945-just after the war, a great world city lies in shadow, nursing its wounds, and a boy named Daniel awakes on his eleventh birthday to find that he can no longer remember his mother's face."
The author, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, has been compared to Dan Brown, and the novel's popularity set off a phenomenon known as "Zafón-mania." Thanks to Ray O. for this recommendation!

Atlas Shrugged
July 26
Our novel for July is by author Ayn Rand: "Ayn Rand is one of the rare writers who not only drew in readers with her novels, but created a philosophical movement with them. Her seminal Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead, cornerstones of her individualistic Objectivist world view, can be viewed as literature, self-empowerment texts, or both." (quoted from www.bn.com biography of Rand)
CCC Book Club member Sandra H. recommended this selection.
Remember, it is quite lengthy, so don't delay in obtaining a copy and getting started.
We are allowing two months to complete the reading, so: No Meeting in June! |
