THE DORMONT BUSINESS DISTRICT
ADVISORY COMMITTEE

 Dormont4

The Dormont Business District Advisory Committee (BDAC) is now well underway with beginning its mission to enhance downtown development in Dormont. Council has formally organized and recognized the initial members of this official committee.

The Committee is in the process of organizing its initiatives which include: Architecture and Design, Business Development and Community Life.

The Architecture and Design Initiative will be charged with leading activities related to developing and maintaining the streetscape program; protecting and improving the character, scale and quality of buildings and facades; and encouraging and maintaining high-quality business and public signage.

The Business Development Initiative will focus its efforts on activities related to retaining and supporting valued downtown businesses and striving to attract businesses that best serve the community's needs.  Finally, the Community Life Initiative will work to create opportunities and events that bring people into Dormont's business district on a regular, ongoing basis.

The committee has worked toward formalizing long term objectives and is currently putting into place a strategic action plan for the balance of 2011. The group is hopeful that many members of the community will want to join them in very specific activities relative to the committee's objectives.

Find Downtown Businesses, Fast!

The Downtown DormontFirst Directory makes it easier than ever to choose Downtown Dormont businesses, first!

The printable version of the directory provides customers with useful contact information for downtown businesses, including business categories, business names, and contact information.  Additionally, the directory shows which businesses are located in the downtown; which are "Certified Local, Independent Businesses"; and which meet established criteria to be designated "Sustainable Downtown Businesses."

Using innovative technology, the printable directory PDF is automatically updated each time a change is made by a business owner or by TCA to the online Downtown First directory.  This helps to ensure that the directory you print out is up-to-date. Also, because the directories can be printed on demand, it saves money and paper (and helps the environment) by not requiring that an entire set of directories is reprinted each time updated business information is available...A win for the environment, and for our community!

Check it out today by visiting the DormontFirst home page on www.downtownfirst.net and you'll see the link to "Click Here for a Printable Directory" in the "Search Our Business Directory" box.

Thanks for choosing Downtown Dormont First!

10 REASONS TO SHOP DORMONT

Dormont5

1. Keep Money in the Neighborhood-When you buy local more money stays in the community.

2. Embrace What Makes Us Different-One-of-a-kind independent businesses are real.  Where we shop, eat and hang out makes our neighborhood home.

3. Get Better Service-Local businesses often hire people who are better informed about the product they are selling and take time to get to know their customers.

4. Buy What You Want, Not What Someone Wants You to Buy-Small businesses tend to stock what their customers love and need, guaranteeing more product choices.

5. Create More Good Jobs-Small local businesses are one of the largest employers nationally and offer greater loyalty to their employees.

6. Help Out the Environment-Independent businesses tend to make purchases locally and usually set up shop in town.  And, you don't have to drive your car as far if at all to get there. This means less sprawl, congestion, habitat loss and pollution.

7. Support Community Groups-Nonprofits receive an average of 350% more support from local businesses than from non-locally owned businesses.

8. Invest in the Community-Local businesses are often owned by people who live and work there and are more invested in their future. Supporting local trade helps to recreate the diversity of small businesses that can be flexible and can adjust to the changing needs of the market.

9. Put Your Taxes to Good Use-Local businesses tend to need and use less infrastructure money and make more efficient use of public services.

10. Show Everyone You Believe in Dormont!!!!-In an increasingly homogenized world, people are more inclined to invest in or move to communities that preserve their unique business and ambiance.
