DOWNTOWN RECOGNITION AWARD
Beaver Volunteer Fire Department

The Beaver Business District Authority has chosen the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department as its 3rd Quarter Downtown Recognition recipient for 2011. The department is being recognized for its 175th Anniversary Celebration on September 11, 2011.
The BDA would like to recognize Fire Chief John Grosskopf and the Fire Department for their 175 years of serving our community. Not only does this commemorative anniversary remind us that the Beaver VFD ensures the safety of our residents, workers, and buildings, but it will also serve to bring more vitality to our community. This special anniversary will be celebrated at an Open House the weekend of Sept 10 and 11 and also will serve to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
Events such as this, the VFD's 10K race held earlier this summer, as well as other VFD activities planned for this fall (see calendar of events) brings thousands of visitors to our downtown and makes Beaver a vibrant community benefitting our merchants and citizens. These kinds of activities also serve to benefit the fire department by raising awareness and sometimes funds to purchase new equipment, gear and to support fire prevention programs.
John Grosskopf has been Chief since 2007, and is only the eleventh Chief in the 175 years of the department. The VFD has 33 active members and seven honorary members who dedicate many hours of training, maintaining of equipment, as well as answering an average of 100 calls every year.
