3RD QUARTER DOWNTOWN RECOGNITION AWARD
Monaca Borough Employees

Borough of Monaca

The Monaca Business District Authority has chosen the Monaca Borough Employees for the 3rd quarter Downtown Recognition Award. Specifically, we would like to recognize Mario Leone, Manager, Dawn Werthman, Secretary, Administrative Staff, Public Works Staff and Part-time Summer Staff. These individuals were chosen for assisting the Business District Authority, Monaca Volunteer Outreach and Happy Weeders notably with in-kind services, supplies and labor assisting with the downtown landscaping, Green Gateways Project, the Farmer's Market and more.

Their efforts inspire us all to maintain the beautification of our downtown. This kind of work ethic puts us one step closer toward our goal of making Monaca a more attractive place to live and shop.

The borough employees have also been an integral part of many important community life activities in town. Through their efforts, Monaca has enjoyed revitalization in the areas of business development and community life.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW BUSINESSES

Ball Furniture

Ball Furniture Outlet, Randy Ball owner, at 308 Ninth St.  - new and used furniture sales;

Sheena's Consignment Boutique, Theresa Sims, owner, 1030 Pennsylvania Avenue - retail clothing, jewelry, shoes.

OF NOTE

Congratulations to Daman's Fitness Center, 390 Sixth Street, on the success of their Second Annual Strongman Competition held July 16.

Condolences to the family of Henry "Hank" Bechtel who passed away July 3.  Hank, 60, was the owner of Bechtel Insurance since taking over the business in 1986.  Hank was a generous supporter of community organizations and events and was a past member of the Business District Authority Board.  He was also active in the Monaca Merchants Association in the 1990's.  He was generous with his time and resources to support downtown Monaca and the community as a whole.  He will be missed.

Streetscape Update of Green Gateways Project:  New benches and planters have been placed on Ninth Street at Mamula's Market and Rossi's Pizza. The concrete pad was poured for the parklet at Atlantic Ave. and Ninth Street with the pergola construction underway. There are  new planters at the "island" of Pennsylvania Ave. and Ninth Street; and community gardens planted in front of the municipal building and at the Monaca Riverfront Park.  Thanks to all contributors and donors and to Patty Majors and Ginny Korak for overseeing this project.  Keep an eye out for more to come!

THANK YOU

Thank you to Patty Majors and Ginny Korak for spearheading the effort to clean up the Baker-Baldwin Cemetery located off Industrial Drive outside of the Beaver Valley Industrial Park.  The tiny cemetery has graves dating from 1810, including revolutionary and civil war soldiers, and was overlooked for many years.  Thanks to the labor of Patty and Ginny along with assistance from Mario Leone, Rock Concrete, Chris McKenzie and Lowes the cemetery grounds are restored.

Thank you
to the Happy Weeders and the Monaca Volunteer Community Outreach who keep our downtown looking beautiful.  These volunteers work tirelessly to plant, weed, sweep, and water the plantings along Pennsylvania Avenue, Ninth Street, Washington Town Plaza, the Veteran's Memorial Park and much more.  We owe a great deal of gratitude to them and appreciate their efforts!
