DOWNTOWN RECOGNITION AWARD
Dr. Claudia Wendel - eye gotcha
eye-gotcha

The Stowe Business District Advisory Committee has chosen Dr. Claudia Wendel and her eye gotcha optometric business.  She is being recognized for her participation in the Allegheny Restores Program.  Dr. Wendel took advantage of the funding available through Allegheny County Department of Economic Development and the Allegheny Together Program to renovate her storefront at 808 Broadway Avenue. And what a difference it made!
TREE TENDER CLASS

Steve Erhard from Marge's Place and Claudia Wendel from eye gotcha attended a Tree Tender class on Saturday, July 17th. The 8 hour course was given by the Friends of the Pittsburgh Urban Forest, an environmental non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the city's vitality by projecting and restoring the urban forest through community tree maintenance, planting, education and advocacy.

The Tree Tenders' curriculum covered everything from the history of urban forestry, to the role of tree tenders in the community. Steve and Claudia learned about the urban tree conditions and stressors, pests and disease, tree biology, basics, proper pruning, tree planting and the benefits of trees and the need for tree tenders. It is anticipated that new trees along parts of Broadway will be part of a later phase of the upcoming streetscape improvements.

Anyone interested in learning more, or better yet, volunteering, can contact the web site at www.pittsburghforest.org or Claudia Wendel at Wendel2020@aol.com.

PHLF UPDATE REGARDING ALLEGHENY RESTORES

It's been a busy summer and fall throughout the Allegheny Together communities. Business and building owners are completing façade improvement projects both big and small, special events brought residents and new visitors alike to the downtowns, and new businesses are cropping up everywhere. It has been an exciting few months and as the weather gets colder, PHLF is available to assist you in a variety of ways. This is the perfect time to plan a façade project, and we're here to help you understand the Allegheny Restores application process and help generate ideas for specific improvements to your building. We also have free interior design assistance available from a roster of experienced design professionals that can help you create eye-catching window displays, maximize interior layout, and assist with merchandising so special items are highlighted.

In the New Year, we're looking forward to continuing the great momentum that each community has made and build upon it. If you are a merchant or property owner located in one of the Allegheny Together downtowns, please get in touch with us. There is valuable assistance available to you and we are eager to assist you.
