Thank You & Please Stay Involved

On behalf of the Allegheny Together program of Allegheny County Economic Development (ACED), the program team and the Borough of Tarentum, we want to thank all of those who have demonstrated their interest in Allegheny Together and in downtown Tarentum by attending the initial program workshops focusing on downtown Architecture and Design, Business Development, and Community Life. We are all very energized by your enthusiasm, ideas and commitment to your community!

As the program continues to move forward in Tarentum, we hope that you will continue to stay involved.  If you are interested in volunteering in upcoming tasks or projects associated with this program, please email Town Center Associates at tca@towncenter.info. If you do not have email access, please call us at 412-577-7447. We will need support from community volunteers beginning in the fall, when regularly scheduled, public meetings will begin to take place.  We look forward to hearing from you!

AlleghenyTogether.com Launched

allegheny together

The Allegheny Together website, www.alleghenytogether.com is now officially launched!

We've created a unique webpage system for each of the four Allegheny Together pilot towns, which is meant to be used as a toolbox to provide you with information and tools you'll need in your revitalization efforts. On your downtown's personal webpages, you will find an extensive downtown property database, with photographs and critical information about commercial properties in your downtown.

You'll also want to visit the website for news and updates about the downtown program, and contact information for the Allegheny Together team.

If you are interested in learning more about any of the downtown focus areas, such as business development, you'll find an extensive list of innovative resources in the Reference Center of the website. We hope you enjoy the site!

Downtown Database Updates

The Downtown Database of properties available at www.alleghenytogether.com on Tarentum's home page is from information available through public records and onsite research.  If you find that any information regarding a particular property is incorrect or has recently changed, please contact Town Center Associates at either tca@towncenter.info or 412-577-7447.  We will be happy to make any corrections or updates. We appreciate your efforts in assisting us in ensuring that accurate information is reflected in this database.

Downtown Tarentum

The Borough of Tarentum continues to work together with Allegheny County Economic Development (ACED) and its team of consultants to further the Allegheny Together program in Tarentum. Tarentum Borough has formed a preliminary downtown steering commitee whose
role is to prioritize
key issues identified
in the workshops held earlier this year; to assist in utilizing these issues in the formation of an action plan; and to establish long-range goals and objectives for the downtown's
revitalization efforts. This preliminary steering committee includes the following community representatives:
Chuck Blackburn; Julie Hilliard; Debbie Shiring; William Herman; and Bill Rossey.

Regularly scheduled committee meetings will begin in the fall and will be open to the public.  Dates and times of the meetings will be posted at
www.alleghenytogether.com.
All will be welcome and encouraged to attend.

PHLF Update

The Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation (PHLF) has enjoyed participating in the Allegheny Together workshops this past winter and spring.  We've also been fortunate these past months to have spent quality time in each of the Allegheny Together pilot communities -- trying to look a little deeper to understand what makes each town tick and to see what we might be able do to help.

We've learned a lot.  And it's been energizing to have had a chance to meet and talk with so many of you.  It's clear that there is a real passion to reclaim our heritage and bring new life to our downtowns.  We've also seen a willingness to take the time and effort that is needed to make a difference and achieve a sustained revitalization.

We are just now finishing up our planning and analysis work and will be submitting them all to the steering committee in each town in late June.  We know that the last thing you need is another plan to put up on the shelf to collect dust.  It is our hope that this work will give each community a roadmap with practical paths forward.

And we look forward to joining with Town Center Associates and Allegheny County to help serve as your guide as we move from planning to implementation and start to take steps down some of these paths.  You have a strong team at your disposal that is willing to work together to be of assistance.  But it is ultimately up to you.

It will take perseverance and a good attitude.  That means looking for opportunities to take steps forward no matter how small they seem.  It means working to find a solution, rather than looking for reasons to say no or do nothing.  It means working together toward a goal, rather than wasting energy pulling apart.  This is what it takes to build the kind of momentum that will see a revitalization through to reality.
