AT A GLANCE...
MONTHLY INSIGHT: Being Enough

Gerry Fathauer, a Senior Member of the Enneagram in Business Network (EIBN), wrote the following Insight Activity on Being Enough - something each of us deal with in 9 different ways.

Gerry's Insight on Being Enough

Being enough - or not - is a uniquely human condition. Our preoccupation with being enough impacts nearly every aspect of our lives. Curiously, no other species on earth gets to be concerned about being enough or not. Yet, for human beings, our preoccupation with being enough can determine our self-worth, our choice of profession, even our life partner. Whether we believe we are enough - or not - may not even be a conscious awareness. Even an unconscious concern about being enough can compromise our life force.

Take a moment to come inside your body. Imagine every cell vibrating with knowing you are enough just as you are. Relax into this awareness of being enough. What is this sensate awareness like for you? Can you imagine yourself living from this place of being enough?

Memorize the sensate awareness of being enough. The next time you act from a sense of lack, practice returning to this awareness of being enough. Continue to practice this when you experience any sense of not being enough and open to any qualitative shift in your actions.

It is in our true nature to be enough. Knowing we are enough and living this reality is life-affirming and in service to all.

**

Feeling we are enough or Being Enough is directly related to the central paradox that goes with each enneatype. Essentially, what we most strive for (to feel we are enough) we can never really achieve because our Enneagram-based behavior gets in our way. To understand this concept more fully, my blog first covers the concept of paradoxes and then reviews the central paradox for each Enneagram style. You can read this blog here.

Sheena Monnin: Vote for Sheena for Miss USA!

You may think I am crazy asking everybody to vote in the Miss USA pageant! What does the Miss USA pageant have to do with the Enneagram? Well, I am crazy about Sheena Monnin, an Enneagram teacher and amazing human being who is, believe it or not, this year's Miss Pennsylvania and a contestant in this year's Miss USA contest.

I met Sheena several years ago when she was a participant in my 6-day intensive leadership Train-the-Trainer program. I was curious about this very young woman (then 25) who was gorgeous, wise, approachable, quiet and reflective, enneagram-savvy, equally likeable and humble, and just a fine person. And now, we can help her and, goodness knows, help the Miss USA pageant select a winner who is conscious, smart, and just a wonderful role model for young women everywhere. In this electronic age, we can vote online for Sheena to help her secure a spot in the semi-finals!

Here's how to do it!

The winner secures a place in the semifinals! Voting starts on May 1st and ends on June 2nd at 12:00 PM EST. You can vote up to 10 times per day per account/valid email address. This is actually 10 votes on the website, 10 votes on Facebook, and 10 votes on Twitter. And if you have more than one email account, you can do these 30 votes on each email account!

Vote on the Miss USA website by clicking here.

What my brother, newspaper columnist Martin Snapp, says about Sheena...

All I did was mention Sheena to my brother, who got so excited that someone like this was a contestant, that he interviewed Sheena and wrote an article about her, which I have excerpted below.

She's smart, funny and focused; and she has a huge, huge heart. She isn't pushing a political agenda, she doesn't hate anyone, and she doesn't want to be a movie star. Her ideal isn't Kim Kardashian; it's Elizabeth Bennett, the heroine of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."

Sheena has a B.A. in human services and a master's in psychology, and her next step is a Ph.D. in theology. She's also a certified etiquette instructor, with certification in corporate etiquette and international protocol.

For years, her goal has been to found a school for at-risk girls called Pemberly (which Austen fans will recognize as Mr. Darcy's estate in "Pride and Prejudice"). Now she has another one: to counsel people of all ages, ethnicities and religions on a deeper, more sensitive and comprehensive level -- especially children. For the last 10 years she's been teaching little kids etiquette, and I don't mean which fork to use.

"Etiquette is learning about respect," she says. "Showing respect to others through our actions is empowering and increases our own level of self-respect."
