AT A GLANCE...
MONTHLY INSIGHT: RESPECT

Each Newsletter starts with the Monthly Insight, one that connects to my blog where I write Enneagram-based information, plus development ideas for each of the 9 Enneagram styles. For the past year, these insights have been written by Senior Enneagram in Business Network member Ruth Landis, a talented and creative Enneagram teacher and business consultant based in Chicago. Her insights have been provocative and useful. Thanks to Ruthie for all you contributed this past year!

Because we rotate these "jobs" on a yearly basis, next year's insights will be written by Gayle Hardie, a transformative business consultant from Australia. Gayle and her business partner, Malcolm Lazenby, are founders of the  Global Leadership Foundation a company that works with boards, CEOs, senior management teams, and individuals in some of Australia's leading organizations, fully integrating the Enneagram in what they do. Gayle also does important community work, and you can read a case study about her work in BoysTown in the Community Service section of the Enneagram in Business website by clicking here.

respectThe insight topic for December is Respect.

Respect Insights

This blog was inspired by Gayle Hardie's Insight Activity below about Respect.

Respect is choosing not to stand in judgment of another.  It is acknowledging others for who they are and what has brought them to this point in time, rather than focusing on what they have or have not done or what they feel or think.  It is sometimes incredibly difficult to see someone for who they truly are, particularly if their story and journey is difficult to accept or believe, or is one that troubles you or has directly impacted your own well being.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to be "heard." When we take the time to truly listen to others, we find that our own "internal dialogue" quiets, and we are better able to see what is driving or motivating the behaviors we are experiencing from the other person. From this comes greater understanding and compassion - two important markers of respect.

You can click here to read the blog in which I've written about how each of us, depending on our Enneagram style, has obstacles as well as opportunities for becoming more respectful.  As you'll read, this often starts with self-respect.

2011 Train-the-Trainer Programs

ft lauderdalThe 2011 Train-the-Trainer (T-the-T) programs will be held this summer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida directly before and after the IEA (International Enneagram Association) Conference.

T-t-T Bringing Out the Best in Yourself at Work July 22-July 27, 2011
T-t-T What Type of Leader Are You? August 1-August 6, 2011

Why Fort Lauderdale?

Answer: Since 2004, I have scheduled Train-the-Trainer programs before or after the IEA conferences because it is convenient for participants who are coming to the conference to also attend T-the-Ts. This is particularly true for people who live outside the US and who travel long distances to come to the US. Last year, I ran the "Coaching with the Enneagram" certificate program directly after the IEA conference. It turned out that most of the participants only came to the certificate program, so I am now going back to holding the T-the-T's before and after the conference. That seems to have worked really well.

Why don't they always start on a Monday?

Answer: Although most of the programs do start on Monday, not all do. The T-the-Ts are 6-days long, so they always go into the weekend. Under some circumstances, they do not start on Monday. For example, the July T-the-T based on Bringing Out the Best in Yourself at Work starts on a Friday (the 22nd) and ends on a Wednesday (the 27th) because Thursday (the 28th) is the IEA conference pre-conference day and the conference itself runs Friday through Sunday (July 29-31).

There will be a special discount given to those of you who want to attend both programs by contacting the office directly.
