MONTHLY INSIGHT: EXPANSION

Each Newsletter starts with the Monthly Insight, one that connects to my blog for details and development ideas about the 9 Enneagram styles; the insight topic for November is Expansion.

Expansion Insights

expansion

This blog was inspired by Ruth Landis' Insight Activity below about Expansion. But what is expansion? It is knowing and being who we really are, growing in ways we never thought possible, experiencing life fully and with gratitude, and an openness to what is rather than what we want something to be.  Ruth Landis is a Senior Member of the Enneagram in Business Network.

As we expand beyond who we think we are we begin to incorporate qualities into ourselves that we have neglected or not fully explored. We begin to see the ways we have limited ourselves. For the next eight days, choose an Enneagram style other than your own and try walking around as that type for a day.  How would they handle situations in ways you would not have thought to try?

Allow yourself to be courageous in this experiment of wearing a different point of view as you might wear a new pair of glasses.  What surprises you, amuses you, and frees you up as you walk around in this new pair of shoes?

You can click here to read the blog in which I've written about how each of us, depending on our Enneagram style, has obstacles as well as opportunities to becoming more expansive. In this particular blog, the obstacles come from our core Enneagram style. The opportunities are from our arrow lines - the styles that have arrows pointing toward or away from our core Enneagram style - and the wing styles on either side of our core Enneagram style. The arrows and wings are just a start because expansion can come from our ability to access all of the nine styles!

Website Highlight

One of the highlights of The Enneagram in Business website is within the section titled "Enneagram," Here you will find an illuminating "player" that allows you to read type descriptions, but then read "Enneagram Style Differentiators" to learn about the similarities and differences between each of the styles. This is important when someone is trying to determine whether Two or Nine fits them best, as an example. You can click on two numbers (for example, 7 and 3) to learn how they are similar but also how they are different. This section is incredibly useful to Enneagram teachers and coaches because they can use it for their own clarity, but also refer clients to this information. Click Here.

For fun, read "Real Stories from the Nine Styles." These are both insightful and funny.  Click Here.

What is the Difference Between the Three Different Certification Programs Offered by The Enneagram in Business?

This is the most frequent question we get via e-mail or by phone. The question is really, which one is best for me? Here is an attempt at a concise answer!

The three programs can be taken in any order and are entirely different from one another, yet have a similar orientation. All are intensive, with theory and interaction or experience intertwined. All three come with an abundance of materials that support participants so they can immediately take their learning into their professional environments.

The two different Train-the-Trainer programs

The first program, "Bringing Out the Best in Yourself at Work," shows you how to put into action the ideas from the first book, with applications to communication, feedback, conflict, teams, leadership and transformation. Materials include powerpoint slides, a detailed Trainer's Guide, and training tools. This is the best program if what you want is the Enneagram's core applications to business and you want to work with all organizational levels, not just leaders.

The second program, "What Type of Leader Are You?" focuses entirely on leadership development using the Enneagram to enhance specific leadership competencies such as driving for results, decision making, strategy, self-mastery, leadership communication, change, team leadership, and more. So if your intention is to work with individual leaders, leadership teams, or in leadership development programs, this is the best program for you. It comes with even more materials than the other Train-the-Trainer program, including a highly detailed Trainer's Guide, an original team simulation, fabric banners, and training tools.

The schedule for the 2011 Train-the-Trainer programs above will be finalized in the next two weeks.

The "Coaching with the Enneagram" Certificate Program

This ICF (International Coaching Federation) accredited program is for those in coaching roles who want to work effectively and directly with clients of the 9 Enneagram styles. The program includes coaching methodologies and techniques fully integrated with the Enneagram, as well as abundant skill practice and an elaborate coaching notebook. The focus is on one-to-one interactions between coach and clients; the Train-the-Trainer programs focus on delivering Enneagram trainings and consultations in group or team settings.
