Are You Motivated?

Ann and Janelle attended the Get Motivated! seminar in Des Moines on September 17, along with 15,000 of our closest friends. We were intrigued by the speakers and captivated by the low cost to attend.

In addition to Get Motivated! co-founder Tamara Lowe, the agenda included well-known, and well-respected figures including: General Colin Powell, Rev. Robert Schuller, former First Lady Laura Bush, NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Terry Bradshaw, Zig Ziglar, former Microsoft CEO Rick Belluzzo, and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

We left Early very early - at 5:00 am - then arrived at the west I-80/I-35 mix master shortly after 7:00 am and finally made it to seats in the higher altitude at 8:45 am. Despite the traffic chaos, it was a good day. Here are a few thoughts we'd like to share.

1. Rick Belluzzo
    a. Get on the right side of gravity
    b. Be hardheaded and softhearted
2. General Colin Powell
    a. Find your purpose - not just your goals or mission
    b. You will know you are a leader when you are followed
if only due to a sense of curiosity
3. Tamara Lowe
    a. Determine your motivational DNA
         i. What drives you (production or connection)
ii. What your needs are (stability or variety)
iii. What awards you prefer (internal or external)
4. Terry Bradshaw
    a. Find your "it" - your talent and go for it
    b. Be grateful for every day you wake up and are alive

We determined motivation comes from within. All of the speakers provided valuable nuggets and suggestions leading us to evaluate our own motivation. It's attitude, inspiration, and surrounding ourselves with friends and colleagues who challenge us to do and be more.
Show Up
Stand Out
Follow-Up

Barb recently spent three days with a client at Husker Harvest Days near Grand Island, Nebraska. Their participation, though a last minute effort, was a success due to creative thinking, staging, and cooperation.
Filling a 40-foot by 70-foot outdoor display space can be a challenge. Using a tent, large outdoor display piece, along with solid signage, and some color, an inviting space was created. The process requires an evaluation of resources already available, design and delivery of event-specific materials, and a coordinated plan for using all of it to the best advantage.
Our client captured high value prospect information because of their participation in Husker Harvest Days. The true work began when the show ended as prospects are contacted and a planned sales approach is implemented.

It's often said the secret to success is to simply show up. Then you need to stand out so your products and services are noticed. Finally, you need to include follow-up in your overall strategy to maximize return on your investment in any tradeshow or event.

Let HMG help you coordinate your participation in events this winter, taking full advantage of all your strengths and growing your market share with a creative yet practical plan.
