Meeting Minutes
  June 2009

DOT Commissioner Durham to Speak at July US 20 Association Meeting

SIMPCO's long-range transportation planning results also featured

The US 20 Association meeting is being held in Sioux City at the Long Lines Family Rec Center (former Municipal Auditorium) on Friday, July 10. The meeting will begin at 10:00 am in the third floor conference room and is jointly hosted by SIMPCO and the City of Sioux City.

When the US 20 Corridor Association holds our regular bi-monthly meeting on July 10, Iowa DOT Commissioner Debi Durham will be addressing us. She will update the Association on DOT events, activities, and priorities, including US 20.

Michelle Bostinelos, transportation planner with SIMPCO, will also share results of their recent long-range transportation planning effort. Completion of statewide four-lane US 20 was the highest priority transportation project identified in the process.

Regular Association business to be conducted during the July meeting includes election of officers and board members. Your attendance and participation is important for our continued success as we continue to push toward the goal of seeing a statewide four-lane US 20 in Iowa.

US 20 Association Presents to DOT Commission

Shirley at DOT meetingUS 20 Corridor Association President Shirley Phillips addressed the Iowa DOT Commission during their June 9 meeting in Cedar Falls. She thanked the Commission for their commitment to four-lane US 20 and the construction included in the most recent Five Year Plan. She also spoke about the need for completing The Midwest Connector, finishing the 46-mile segment west of US 71 to Moville.

Representatives of the US 20 Association attend monthly DOT Commission meetings. Bob Singer, Steve Hoesel, and Buck Boekelman stay in touch with the Commission and staff. Their reports keep us informed and help direct advocacy efforts.

The Association recently made a commitment to make formal presentations to the Commission during their meetings held in the field. Michelle Bostinelos, transportation planner for SIMPCO in Sioux City, will make a presentation for the Association at the Commission meeting set for August 11 in Council Bluffs. Their process included a survey of their members and completion of four-lane US 20 was their highest priority.
