NAVTA is on the Road!

NAVTA has had the privilege to visit several conferences and conventions this summer, and we wanted to take the time to share our experience with all of our members and thank those of you that visited with us!

A few weeks ago, NAVTA visited the AVMA Annual Convention in St. Louis. This convention granted us the opportunity to meet with many industry partners and members of the veterinary healthcare team.

Currently, we are at the AVTE Biennial Symposium. This event awarded us the opportunity to talk with vet tech educators from all over the country and strengthen our relationship with SCNAVTA Advisors that we are so fortunate to have promoting our organization and the industry.

We are always willing to spread the word about the importance of veterinary technicians and the work that they do; so, if you were unable to join us at either of these conferences, keep in mind that our door is always open. Send us an email (info@navta.net), comment on our Facebook, follow us on Twitter , visit our website, or give us a call (888-99-NAVTA)! We look forward to hearing from you!

The Results Are In!

The TVTA sought out the assistance of NAVTA in order to find out what is happening around the US with regards to credentialed technicians being able to make farm visits without the physical presence of a licensed veterinarian.  There were 49 respondents to the survey representing 26 states.  Approximately 18% of respondents said they are allowed to make farm calls without the veterinarian on the premises.  Some of the procedures that their employers ask them to perform included administration of medications, blood draws, shockwave therapy, radiography, IV med/fluid administration, vaccinations, bandage changes, plasma transfusions, change wraps, tpr's, therapeutic laser treatments, insulin injections and follow up exams.   It was evident that all of the respondents understood that they cannot prescribe, diagnose or perform surgery.  Many mentioned that they are required to stay in contact with the veterinarian.  I would like to hear more discussion on this topic.  From the LVT's perspective, I see us freeing up valuable time for the licensed veterinarian and putting to use the skills we have honed.  It's a no brainer!
