Spring is in the air!
With March comes new beginnings, fresh air and life popping up all around us. Easter, spring cleaning and gardening all come to mind when the air gets a little warmer.
Now is the time to start thinking of fun outdoor adventures that the whole family can enjoy. Family getaways don't have to be elaborate vacations. They can be fun and inexpsenive. Activities like planting a vegetable garden with your children is a great bonding experience for the entire family. Best of all, the educational experience can be continued in the kitchen after the harvest of fresh veggies!
Another great idea is camping. Not sure that you want to brave the great outdoors? Camping in the backyard is just as much fun, but indoor plumbing is only a few steps away!
Let us know what you and your kin are up to this beautiful spring season. Send us your photos and share your stories, and you may just see yourself in the next American Mothers, Inc. e-newsletter.
So, bust out the pastels and sandals; spring has sprung!

Teach...
Teach your kids one of the most valuable lessons they can learn: how to live life. Mother Susan Maushart decided to unplug her kids. She took away the Internet, tv, iPods, cell phones and video games for... wait for it... SIX MONTHS!
The end result was great. Her son discovered a newfound love for his saxophone and is now studying music in college. Her oldest daughter went to the library for any computer use, and that was only for school work. Susan's youngest daughter's grades also improved substantially.
With a newly released book, The Winter of Our Disconnect, Maushart chronicles the time in her family's life where they found how much fun books, family meals and listening to music together could actually be.
While your own household may not need that big of a change, what can you disconnect from to reconnect to each other? |

Honor...
We at American Mothers, Inc. now take this opportunity to honor one of our very own.
Rita Rosaio, 2005 Delaware Mother of the Year, passed away on January 26, 2011, surrounded by her family. She fought a courageous battle with cancer and will be greatly missed.
Rita was the secretary at Salesianum School. Always a kind voice on the end of the line, Rita was known to hand-deliver lunches when parents would bring forgotten brown bags to the office.
She also presented a fantastic interfaith program on the dangers of the Internet. She was passionate about warning parents of how easy it is for young people to get into porn sites, order dangerous drugs and much more.
We remember Rita and her dedication to her community and to her family. |
