Happy Holidays!

This month is a busy one for mothers across America. From holiday parties to shopping and baking, there's not a mom out there who doesn't have a jam packed agenda. But don't forget to take a moment and step back; marvel at what this season is all about. It's about family, love, giving and miracles. And with the mothers associated with American Mothers, Inc.- the love and dedication they provide to their families daily is nothing short of a miracle. Enjoy this time with loved ones!

And don't forget, there are only a few months left to submit nominations for Young Mother of the Year award. Nominate an awe-inspiring young mother for the new year! You can read the guidelines and download the nomination packet here.

Again, have a fantastic December and we'll see you in 2011!

REACH...

Often, people hold such beliefs as, "I have to get my loved one an expensive gift" or "I don't have the time or talent to make something special." Sentimental gifts can be simple and have much more value to friends and family than costly gifts. This is especially true as people age-many become more appreciative of the relationships in their lives.

While a card is usually given for a special occasion, it's also nice as a spontaneous gift. You don't have to buy a greeting card though. Check out craft stores, business supply stores and all-in-one stores for colored paper, rubber stamps, stickers, colored pens and pencils and more. You can even use recycled items like magazines or advertisements to add color, and even make your own envelope. The most important thing is to take the time to hand- write a heartfelt message on your card. A personal message will transcend fancy paper or a store-bought card any day.

Another "gift of presence" is to call and offer to help someone-maybe even a simple visit or a coffee break. Our time is the most precious thing to us, and if we can give that time to someone and warm their hearts, it is beneficial and usually comes back manyfold. I find that spontaneous acts of kindness grow and magnify quickly!

Lastly, the best gift you can give someone-and it costs you nothing-is a hug and the words "I love you." If you truly mean it and you look them in the eyes, it is worth more than any gift in the world!
