Happy Thanksgiving!
In case you haven't heard, American Mothers Inc. has started a monthly e-newsletter. We hope this will be a great way to stay in touch and communicate with our members. You will find the newsletter chock full of news, stories, member spotlights and surveys each month. We hope to entertain and educate, but also to interact with one another using this new e-tool!
Remember, there are only a few more months left to submit your nominees for our Young Mother of the Year award. Nominate an awe-inspiring young mother for 2011! You can read the guidelines and download the nomination packet here.
On another note, the season of giving is nearly upon us, but before we dive into the ambush of commercial sales pitches, we at AMI wanted to remind you to make some special time for loved ones. Sometimes with the busy lives we lead and the unending barrage of the media and marketing worlds, it is hard to slow down and really give thanks for the gifts we have been given. After all, appreciation, love, family and spirituality are what sustain us every day. And of course, these are what AMI Inc. was founded on and continues to thrive on after a impressive 75 years!

REACH...
ABC Quilts and it's volunteers have helped deliver over a half million handmade quilts to at-risk babies all over the world. American Mothers Inc. became involved with ABC when founder, Elen Ahigren, was named 1992 New Hampshire Mother of the Year. AMI took over ABC, now called At-Risk Babies and Children Quilts, as a national project in 2006. The mission of ABC remains the same; "to give love and comfort to at-risk babies" and to "promote awareness, community service and prevention education".Groups and individuals lend support to this community service organization by donating hand crafted quilts to ABC, who distributes them to hospitals and other agencies that support at-risk youth. You do not have to be a professional quilter to donate your gift. On the Oprah Show
Oprah Winfrey surprised her audience last week with an amazing line up of prizes. Every year Oprah chooses one of her shows (this year two shows) to become "Oprah's Favorite Things" where she showers "her ultimate viewers" with all of her favorite items from that year. Oprah stressed that these participants are chosen based on "their dedication to give back to the community".
Two of our members, National Mother of the Year ®, Dianne Callister, and California Young Mother of the Year, Sara Dawn Mayer were audience members of the episode which aired December 19th, 2010. Mayer wrote in about Callister's work with middle school students in Project Give. Project Give empowers children, teaching them that they can make an impact on their community.
