Come Learn About Our New Crisis Booklet

This booklet is the brainchild of Abby Flynn, who, up to the point of her hospitalization for heart valve replacement surgery, chaired the committee that produced it. Her drive, her focus, and her indomitable spirit provided the wherewithal that made this booklet a reality. Sadly, Abby did not survive this difficult surgery, and so she was deprived of the pleasure of seeing it actually produced in final form. We dedicate this booklet to Abby's memory; it is one of many examples of the good things that have resulted from her very active and fruitful life with NAMI Indiana.

VOLUNTEERS ARE LIFE BLOOD

Happy Holidays everyone! It is hard to believe that 2010 is just around the corner. I want to say thank you to all of the NAMI Indiana Family-to-Family teachers. Family to Family is our signature education program. This evidence-based program is the lifeblood of our organization as well as those participants who attend.  The facilitators are all volunteers who themselves have a loved one suffering a mental illness.  We applaud these volunteers because we understand the tremendous effort required to bring forth this 12 week class. The amount of time spent in preparation and tremendous emotional expenditures are  noteworthy. Their willingness to volunteer and educate others has allowed for 21 classes to be taught in 2009 and have reached approximately 355 people in Indiana! Our volunteer's dedication to serving families and friends in Indiana is vital to helping NAMI Indiana carry out its mission. I encourage you to look for ways to help educate, support, and advocate for persons affected by mental illness. Maybe it's by volunteering at your local NAMI office, helping teach a Family-to-Family class, or writing an encouraging note to a family in crisis. Whatever you might do, you can trust that NAMI Indiana is working alongside you to help our families in need.

I hope this holiday season brings you peace, joy, and hope as you look to the New Year.
Amanda Ramirez,
NAMI Indiana Program Director

Dear Friend of NAMI Indiana,

This has been an incredible year of economic decline, lost jobs, soldiers returning from war, and budget cuts for services.  Times are hard and more and more people have turned to us for assistance.  NAMI Indiana needs your support more than ever to serve this increased need. Please be a part of what we are doing every day to affect the lives of those experiencing Major Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and other brain based illnesses.

Help us change the lives of people with mental illness who come in contact with law enforcement by continuing to educate officers, attorneys, and judges across the state.

Stand with us as we assist our local, state and national government representatives to understand that these illnesses can be behind any face, in any family and in any community.

Whether you choose a one-time gift or a monthly recurring gift, the process is simple. No amount is too small. A gift of $2.00 per month assists 2 help-line callers. Just go to our website:
www.namiindiana.org  and click the Donate button. You also may mail your donation to:

NAMI Indiana, Inc.

WE NEED YOU
7th Annual Meet and Greet (more info)
At this event, NAMI members from around the state will meet in the North Rotunda of the State House in order to share some of the insights that we have concerning some of the profound issues associated with severe and persistent mental illness. Many of these issues concern public policy that is necessary to insure that persons with brain disorders and their families and friends have a fulfilling life. We hope that you will stop by and chat with us, and that when one of your constituents asks to meet with you, you will be able to find a few minutes in your hectic schedule to hear our stories.
