Greetings!

 MI Gets My Vote

Most NAMI members and friends are familiar with NAMI Indiana's core mission to facilitate education advocacy and awareness on behalf of Hoosiers affected by mental illness.

NAMI's signature education programs and outreach to the general public are some of our organization's most visible activities. However, NAMI Indiana's important advocacy work is sometimes less visible, and thus, not as well known.

In January 2009, NAMI Indiana volunteers spent an entire day educating Indiana legislators on important topics, such as the importance of abolishing the death penalty for persons with mental illness.

In February 2009, NAMI Indiana representatives Julia Kauffman, Pam McConey and Teresa Hatten traveled to Washington D.C. to advocate for Hoosiers affected by mental illness with our national representatives.

Topics discussed include:
  • Mental Health Parity Implementation
  • Decriminalization of Mental Illness
  • Integration of Behavior Health Care and Primary Care
  • Effective Implementation of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund
  • NAMI's partnership with the Veteran's Administration to bring Family to Family support groups directly to VA facilities
When you support NAMI, you can be assured that your investment supports the interests of Hoosiers affected by mental illness not only in the local community but also at the State and National levels of government.

If you would like to participate in NAMI Indiana's public policy initiatives, call 800-677-6442.

What will YOU do in March to improve lives of Hoosiers affected by mental illness?
Every Month Logo

When NAMI was initially formed over 30 years ago, persons with mental illness were shunned from general society and did not have the benefit of today's advanced treatments that make Recovery a Reality.

Thirty years later, largely due to the efforts of family members, professionals, law enforcement representatives and others, the lives of Hoosiers affected by mental illness have steadily improved.

But there is more important work to be done
. The current economic crisis creates significant financial challenges for organizations like NAMI. In addition to your volunteer and advocacy efforts, we ask that you
CLICK HERE to participate in the "Every Month" financial campaign, which facilitates a small credit card contribution every month. $3.33 per month, $2.22 per month, whatever you can afford. These recurring contributions make an enormous impact in NAMI's ability to continue to IMPROVE LIVES OF HOOSIERS AFFECTED BY MENTAL ILLNESS.

Thank you in advance for your participation.
