| Greetings!
NAMI Indiana's core mission is to facilitate education advocacy and awareness on behalf of Hoosiers affected by mental illness.
NAMI Indiana volunteers and staff members track critical issues important (both now and in the future) to persons affected by mental illness.
At the recent NAMI Indiana State Conference, a panel discussion was held on the topic of electronic health records, and the impact that this new technology could have on the treatment, recovery and privacy of persons with mental illness.
Since that panel discussion occurred, there have been multiple significant developments in this area that could fundamentally change the way health care is administrated in Indiana and throughout the U.S.
One important signal of the urgency of this issue came from the recent signing ceremony for the children's health care bill, SCHIP (pictured above), where president Obama dedicated a significant portion of his comments to the importance of implementing electronic health records.

Also of note is the fact that the House and Senate versions of the economic stimulus legislation now under consideration both have allocated between $20 billion and $50 billion for electronic health records. Stay tuned for future updates on this important topic.

What are YOU doing THIS MONTH to Make a difference?
Late last year, NAMI Indiana asked members and friends to take action every month to improve lives of Hoosiers affected by mental illness.
Since then, hundreds of friends of NAMI have volunteered with their local NAMI affiliate, provided extra support for someone affected by mental illness, or made an effort to educate a friend or family member that Recovery is Reality.
Many others have chosen to participate in NAMI Indiana's Every Month program by registering to make an automatic recurring donation. Even amounts like $2 or $5 per month make a significant difference. CLICK HERE to learn more about the program and how you can participate. |
