Indiana State Capital You may remember receiving information about NAMI Indiana's Legislative Meet & Greet event, which was held in the Rotunda of the State Capital building on January 13, 2009. This year's event was one of the largest yet, and made a significant impact in the lives of Hoosiers affected by mental illness.

NAMI members from all over the state came to talk with their legislators about open access to medications, Crisis Intervention Teams, Assertive Community Treatment and other topics. Members also shared stories of past difficulties they experienced in accessing services. Encouragingly, the legislators had time to listen.

New this year, the Indiana Coalition of Clubhouses participated with NAMI members. Clubhouse members got to meet their legislators and tell them about the clubhouse movement and its benefits.

Even though the Legislative Meet & Greet event occurs only once a year, there's never a bad time to talk to your legislator about issues affecting Hoosiers with mental illness. If you even need assistance interacting with your legislator, simply contact the NAMI Indiana office at 800-677-6442.
