You're Invited to New Fall/Holiday Downtown Loft Series (With a Twist!)
SATURDAY MORNING CONVERSATION SERIES with...Co-Creators & Visionaries
If you want to experience "hot, happening" downtown from an insider's perspective - this series is for you!
As many of you know, I lived in a fabulous historic loft in downtown LA for over a year and I continue to write the popular blog, Tales of Downtown. I am still extremely connected to the lifestyle here - which is bursting with creativity and re-vitalization.
I'm hosting my fourth conversation series and inviting you - the spirited co-creators of LA - to have an experience
with the leading visionaries of downtown.
LIMITED TO 25. The monthly 4-part series includes a buffet breakfast and four different conversation adventures in different downtown locales.
View this as a Saturday morning salon series, but with a twist. A way to leave the world behind, and have an adventure - together.
Saturday, September 11, 10-12:30pm - HENRY PRIEST
Prominent Latino filmmaker/producer Henry Priest is the co-founder of the hugely successful Downtown Film Festival - now in its 3rd year - proclaimed by L.A. Weekly to be among the Top 5 Film Festivals in LA. DFFLA celebrates the renaissance of downtown L.A. in all its facets - from historic movie palaces to legendary cultural institutions to its unique ethnic-cultural diversity. Over 30,000 people are expected to attend between September 8-12.
We'll meet Henry at a private (unbelievably fantastic) central loft location. I'll interview Henry on how the festival got started, his passion for downtown filmmaking and the burgeoning rise of Latino filmmakers.
Saturday, October 9, 10-12:30pm - THE FASHION DISTRICT with CATINA FERRAINE & KAT PYKA
Two movers and shakers in the burgeoning fashion district - realtor/green home specialist, Kat Pyka has put loft living squarely on the map in the heart of the fashion district - with her involvement with the new and trendy Emil Brown Lofts - and "modern couture artist" Catina Ferraine lives and works at Emil Brown to create fashion and fantasy. She also raises her young kids there.
We'll meet at Emil Brown, have a rooftop breakfast overlooking the district, then Kat will take us on a walk, and we'll come back to Catina's loft. I'll interview Catina on how downtown living inspires her creativity.
Saturday, November 13, 10-12:30pm - DAVID HOLLEN & LILI LAKICH
The Arts District, in particular the Warehouse District, is the "happening" home to many of downtown's celebrated artists. Famous sculpture David Hollen (a Wisconsin transplant) resides in a huge loft where he creates massive metal work, and artist Lili Lakich is the Founding Director of the Museum of Neon Art, and the owner of Lili Lakich Studio, where her exquisite neon art is displayed.
We'll meet at David's phenomenal (behind steel gates) loft, then later walk across the street to Lili's studio. I'll interview both of them on how their passions define their life.
Saturday, December 11, 10-12:30pm - HIGHLAND PARK with KATHY GALLEGOS, MARGARET GARCIA, HEATHER McLARTY
Highland Park is the new downtown. Galleries are cropping up like crazy and those in the know - know - that Avenue 50 Studio, founded by Kathy Gallegos started it all. With a wide repertoire of local artists, such as the extremely talented Latina artist Margaret Garcia and Heather McLarty, one of the few women blacksmiths in the world, the community located northeast of downtown is hot. Festive and colorful it is a great place to celebrate the holidays.
Either by taking the Metro from Little Tokyo or by driving to Highland Park, we'll meet Kathy at the Southwest Museum Metro exit. She will walk us to Heather's studio in a Teepee, to Margaret's in-home studio, and then we'll have a panel discussion at Avenue 50. Followed by holiday festivities.
Second Saturday Morning of the Month Series with Co-Creators & Visionaries September through December.
Cost: $200 for the 4-part series or $175 for three conversations of your choice. Includes buffet breakfast. If you sign up for all 4 a payment plan of $65 each can be worked out by calling me. Credit cards accepted.
After each conversation there is an optional no host lunch at a hip downtown restaurant. So stay for lunch!
