Your Pool and Monsoons = Not Friends
Remember these storms last year? I think we all learned a new word, "haboob." I know I had never heard of it, and I'm a native and have been through my fair share of monsoon storms! I know they kept my husband busy cleaning our pool last year. So, I thought I would highlight some monsoon tips this month to help out. Here goes:
- Clean your filter more often during monsoon season. Try using a filter cleaner to help maximize efficiency.
- Check skimmer and pump baskets frequently and regularly to ensure proper circulation and prevent potential issues from occuring.
- Make sure your pool cleaner is in good working order.
- Trim your trees and bushes around the pool prior to monsoon season.
- Brush your pool daily to prevent staining and use a clarifier to help filter the dust out.
- Increase sanitizer levels to take on the increase of dirt and plant life that blows into the pool.
- Use an algaecide to help your sanitizer work more effectively and to prevent algae blooms.
- Use a phosphate remover to eliminate the source of food for algae, and to keep the pool sparkling clean.
- Make sure your system is running the adequate amount of time it should. The basic rule of thumb for hours to run your system is 1 hour for every 10 degrees it is outside.
- Test your pool water a minimum of once a week. Out of balance chemistry will lead to algae, staining and general uncomfortableness when you are swimming.
We've already had our first storms, and we are going to be really dusty this summer, so it's time to get and stay on top of pool and yard maintenance for the summer for real now! Welcome to Monsoon Season in Arizona! |

Happy 4th of July!!
What will you be doing to celebrate our Nation's Birthday this 4th of July? I found an incredible list of things to do on azcentral.com. (Scroll down to get to the 4th, although there are a ton of things to do leading up to that Wednesday) Whatever it is you do, we hope you stay safe and cool. And if you're hosting the party, come in and stock up on the things you need!
We have a ton of BBQ and pool supplies, PLUS, plates, napkins, paper towels, outdoor furniture, insect repellents, water, etc. And PLUS-PLUS, we also have rental! You have GOT to try the HUGE evap cooler at your next outdoor event. It makes all the difference in the world. Don't forget a sno-cone machine for the kids, an easy up to sit under, and you can even rent a popcorn machine and pop the very same popcorn you enjoy while walking the aisles at your favorite Paul's.
So, give your nearest Paul's Ace Hardware location a call and reserve what you need today! |

Scorpions
You may or may not have seen these little buggers around your house. If you haven't, consider yourself lucky, HOWEVER, they say that for every one you see, there are ten more you don't. Yikes! I got stung by one last year and I can tell you it was awful. So we make sure to keep what we need around the house to get rid of them, where they like to sleep and their food source. Getting rid of them when you see them is easy enough, as you can see them, but for those others you don't, prevention is key.
