BRITISH AIRWAYS HOME HUB T5 VOTED WORLD'S BEST AIRPORT TERMINAL

British Airways' home hub T5 has been voted the World's Best Airport Terminal by airline travellers at the World Airport Awards held at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Vienna.

Organised by independent survey company Skytrax, the awards are based on 12 million customer surveys completed over ten months covering 388 airports.

John Holland-Kaye, commercial director of Heathrow, said, "We are thrilled that Heathrow has been rewarded for a third time at the prestigious World Airport Awards. Terminal 5 is a great showcase of our vision of Heathrow's future and the level of passenger experience we are working to deliver right across our airport."

BRITISH AIRWAYS ANNOUNCES NEW ROUTE TO ASIA

British Airways is delivering on its promise to increase long haul flying to Asia following IAG's purchase of BMI, by announcing a new route to Seoul in South Korea.

British Airways has begun selling flights to the capital city and the service will commence on December 2, 2012.

A Boeing 777 with First Class, Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller cabins, will serve the six flights a week to Seoul.

NEW FIRST LOUNGE FOR SINGAPORE

By the end of 2012, First Class customers of both Qantas and British Airways travelling on their premium route to London via Singapore will be able to enjoy a new world-class First Lounge in Singapore.

The new First Lounge will offer greater space and additional seating for guests when it opens, designed by Qantas Creative Director Marc Newson and will deliver unsurpassed levels of comfort and luxury, building on the success of the Sydney and Melbourne lounges, whilst incorporating local regional influences through design and the dining experience.

HESTON BLUMENTHAL UNVEILS SPECIAL SUMMER MENUS

British Airways and Michelin-star chef Heston Blumenthal have unveiled new menus created by rising star Simon Hulstone, which cabin crew will serve to three million British Airways customers over the busy summer period. Simon spent the past year being mentored by Heston Blumenthal as part of the BA Great Britons programme, which supports up and coming British talent in food, arts, and film.

With a nod to Heston's creative approach, Simon's dishes take inspiration from the airline's menus dating back to 1948 - the last time the Olympics were held in London. Popular ingredients from the time have been incorporated into his menu, with some dishes reinvented for a modern day audience - rich in umami and using local produce.

BMI PURCHASE BOOSTS BRITISH AIRWAYS DOMESTIC SERVICES FROM WINTER 2012

British Airways' Northern winter 2012 schedule has been unveiled. Highlights include:

  • British Airways returns to the Isle of Man

  • Increased frequency on numerous routes

The UK regions are set to benefit from British Airways' new Northern winter schedule, which begins on October 28, 2012 thanks to parent company IAG's purchase of BMI.

BRITISH AIRWAYS MARKS 85 YEARS OF INFLIGHT SERVICE

In 1927 Imperial Airways (predecessor to British Airways) introduced the Silverwing branded air service on the London to Paris route. The flight offered the first luxury onboard meal service. A male steward dressed in a smart white tunic served just ten passengers on the flight, which took around two hours.

85 years on British Airways' cabin crew serve around 100,000 meals a day to customers, often with more than one meal on an individual flight. The airline's 14,000 crew are trained in the art of premium service. They are taught skills which include how to tell a Merlot from a Shiraz, how to cook the perfect scrambled eggs and how to re-create a five star turndown service.
