SUSD Superintendent Catalani

Superintendent Dr. Gary T. Catalani wants to build relationships with the entire SUSD community - parents, students, employees and the community around us. To develop these relationships, he will be hosting office hours at each school. During these times, anyone is welcome to stop by to talk with him. Dr. Catalani hopes you will all take the opportunity to introduce yourselves during those times.

May 8 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Principal's Conference Room at Arcadia High School, 4703 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix

AHS IPlant teacher fellowships
Congratulations to Science teachers Cheryl Dunham and Steve Geislinger  who have been selected as iPlant Teacher Fellows for summer, 2009.  We were chosen from a very qualified group of teachers in Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science from across the country. Nine teachers were selected to participate in this summer's fellowship program.

What is iPlant you ask, please read below.
The iPlant Collaborative is an NSF-funded center developing cyberinfrastructure tools to address "grand challenge" questions in plant biology, ranging from molecules to ecosystems. iPlant is a community -driven collaborative in which plant scientists, computer scientists, and information management experts will 1) identify the grand challenge research questions in Plant Science, 2) develop and build the supporting cyberinfrastructure to resolve those questions, and 3) educate the next generation of scientists to work on multidisciplinary projects in plant biology that require computational thinking.
Teachers will:
*Participate in computational plant biology research* as a member of a multidisciplinary team
* Learn about plant biology and related mathematics and computational topics through research, seminars and collaborative investigations.
* Use the latest technology applications in research and to interact and share discoveries during and after the program.
*Collaborate with other teacher fellows in the review and development of computational plant biology modules for implementation in the classroom.
