DNA Week

Arcadia High School is pleased to announce DNA Week at Arcadia High School will take place Monday, April 20, through Friday, April 24, 2008.  Our objective is:

To inspire, advance, and promote Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM) opportunities for our students, teachers, and
community.

Approximately 900 4th grade and 8th through 12th grade students from Arcadia Neighborhood Learning Center, Ingleside Middle School, Tavan Elementary, Hopi Elementary and Arcadia High School, and 25 teachers will participate in lead-in activities and the DNA Day Community Night.  Arcadia High School is proud to have our Biotechnology and Biology student leaders facilitate the lead-in activities and Community Night.

Fourth grade students will complete drawings of their "Perfect Plant" and selected writing samples.  Eighth grade students will write a DNA themed essay and enter a poster contest, with interdisciplinary support provided by middle school Language Arts, Science and Art teachers and the Arcadia High School team.  Local awards will be announced Friday, April 24, when Arcadia High School hosts DNA Parent and Community Night.  Parents, students and community members will engage in Arizona Science Center outreach activities,  view student projects and tour the Biotechnology facility at Arcadia High School.

Please join us for this exceptional experience!  We hope to provide the STEM opportunity annually and expand to include other Scottsdale Unified  School District schools.  Please direct questions to Diane Whitmore, Arcadia High School, at dwhitmore@susd.org or (480) 484-6300, ext. 6330.
