Library Scavenger Hunt
|
|

Before the weather becomes too nice to keep the kids corralled indoors, how about spending some extra time at the library? A Library Scavenger Hunt is a great way to spend an afternoon. Just write up a list of items you'd like your kids to find, adjusting the difficulty to fit the age of your children. Leave a spot for your child to fill in the title and call number as shown:
Fiction Book
Title: _______________
Call Number: _______________
Here are some ideas for what they could find:
- Fiction book
- Nonfiction book
- Biography
- Magazine
- Music CD
- Audio CD
- Reference book
- Craft book
- Book about a country
Increase difficulty with more specific instructions:
- Children's book by McClosky
- Nonfiction book on the Holocaust
- Biography of George Washington
- Classical music CD
- Photography magazine
- Knitting book
- Diabetic cookbook
- Video about Lewis & Clark
Be creative and try to get your children into areas of the library they may not have explored before.
Another option is this Online Scavenger Hunt where students answer specific questions. It's quite thorough and offers tutorials for searching tips, geography guidelines and more. There is also an option to print out portions of the hunt, including crossword puzzles and geography questions.
