Maple Leaves

I think Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the colors of the leaves and the sound of their crunch under my feet. I love the smell of baking bread and pies and stews. And I love the feel of warm sweaters and cozy throws on the sofa. Fall is truly a feast for the senses.

This issue of our Education through Imagination newsletter is filled with ideas to add a bit of fall fun to your home and homeschool.

And don't forget to check out this month's special offer. This week only, you can use the code SAVE20 to receive 20% off any Times Tales package and/or 20% off a set of three Clean 'n' Flips.

Lastly, be sure and read down to the bottom of the newsletter and catch up on any blog posts you may have missed. We have a great interview with Konos Curriculum author Jessica Hulcy as well as some nice freebies.

Enjoy!

Happy Homeschooling!

Take a Color Walk or Scavenger Walk
With the changing of the leaves, and the weather not too hot and not too cold, October is the perfect month to take a Color or Scavenger Walk. To take a Color Walk, provide your students with a list of colors and then have them find objects that match each color. You can set this up a variety of different ways.

First, you could create a color wheel like the below and have your children clip their found items to the appropriate "slice" on the color wheel. To make things easier, you might substitute different shades of brown, green, orange and yellow for the red, purple and blue.

You could also nab some paint colors strips from your local hardware store and, instead of matching colors, as shown below, you could have your children clip a leaf, branch, or flower to each corresponding color.

If a scavenger hunt is more your style, here are some cute approaches. I really love this photo scavenger hunt. You can find full instructions for making your own hunt card and links to photos at Deceptively Educational.

I also love this idea from I Am Momma Hear Me Roar, using an egg crate. Again, she provides full instructions on her blog.

If you want to keep it simple, you can print off these pre-made Scavenger Hunt Cards or download this Park Scavenger Hunt page and let your child color in each item he or she finds.

Great Web Resources
There are so many great resources on the web it's hard to imagine homeschooling without it. Here are some goodies I found last month.

  • If you have an auditory learner, or just enjoy listening to audio books as a family visit the free section of My Audio School for lots of great downloads.
  • Add some real-life learning to your math curriculum with these free downloads from Yummy Math. I love these!
  • And, just for fun, let your children play around with Spiromath at Math Playground. WARNING! This is addictive. (I had to test it out, right?)
