Happy September! After a delayed start we are FINALLY back in the swing of things with our homeschooling. I must admit I really enjoy this time with my children. It is such a blessing to be able to learn together and enjoy one another in this way. Not to mentention, all the fun stuff I get to learn!!
In this issue we offer you some fun, creative ideas and resources you can add to your curriculum to make your "school days" even better.

Color Fun!
Fall is a great time for a Color Walk. Tie this in with a study of light and the color spectrum by coloring with markers or gluing tissue paper down one half a sheet of paper. (Example above) Use red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet to teach the spectrum. Leave the right side of the paper blank.
As you take a walk together, have children glue or tape items they find that match each color. Use leaves, grass, flowers, dirt, bark, etc.
You can adapt this by using only cool or warm colors if you are trying to reinforce an art concept.
Memory Trick: Many people use the name
Roy G Biv (R-red, o-orange, g-green...) to rememer the colors of the rainbow. Teach this to your children or have them create a silly sentence of their own with one word for the first letter of each color. |
