Greetings!

So....is school out for summer? Hopefully, as homeschoolers our children are aware that learning happens whether we are "doing school" or not. Around here, we're planning to focus on some of the more fun subjects we didn't fit in during the school year; science, art, etc. We hope this issue gives you some great ideas and resources for the months ahead - whether you're "doing school" or not.

Enjoy!

Find Me Book

Library Scavenger Hunt

When it's just too hot and you've had your fill of the pool consider spending a cool afternoon at the library. Use index cards or slips of paper to write a type of book to find, and a line to write the title and another line for the call number. For example:

Fiction Book
Title: ______________
Call Number: ______________

Suggestions to look for include fiction, non-fiction, biography, magazine, cd, reference, craft book, book on a country, book about animals. etc. Depending on the ages of your children, you can increase difficulty by listing items like, childrens book written by McClosky, nonfiction book on China, classical music CD, Atlas, Photography Magazine, etc.
Summer Goal Setting

I recently read a message board discussion on creating individual summer goals, which looked like a great idea. You could also sit down and brainstorm some family goals as well.

Consider breaking your list into sections. Possible categories might be:

-Things I'd like to learn
-Books I'd like to read
-Places I'd like to visit
-Movies I'd like to see
-Something new I'd like to try
-Projects I'd like to finish

Goals can be as simple as "going camping" or as involved as "run a 5k".  Just taking the time to put them to put them down encourages you to remain focused and allows you to work together as a family in helping one another meet their goals.

Father's Day Treasure

Love Dad

Want to present Dad with a gift he'll truly treasure this Father's Day? Consider helping your children write a heartfelt letter sharing the things they appreciate and admire about him. I doubt there's much he would enjoy more!

Jill Novak offers some great suggestions for such a letter in this blog post.

Happy Homeschooling!

Sincerely,
